Wow, really? Well I can safely say I don't know of a single gas station anywhere near me or even along I-10 between TX and FL that doesn't offer 93. If you're looking for ethanol-free without a POI file though... good luck dying.

So he wouldn't run boost on 91 and blow his engine. He made it an NA car with a funky intake. I'm guessing he had a centrifugal supercharger, not a positive displacement one.

06 Grand Prix. Positive displacement unfortunately. Didn't bring the laptop to pull timing or a different pulley to lower boost. You can't even imagine the gas mileage trying to suck intake air through a roots blower with rotors that don't feel like turning :P Didn't grenade though.

Yikes. I'm surprised it ran at all.

Sorry for reviving this old thread but I wondered if there's any additional info on using E85. Here's a summary of what i understand after reading this thread:
  • Don't let it sit with a tank of E85 for longer than 1 month
  • Run a tank of 91/93 every few months
  • Ideally run a flexfuel kit/tune (alcohol content of E85 varies) but not required

I'm moving to SoCal and will have an E85 station 4 miles away from my house and I'm seriously considering going E85 only.

If you want to run 100% e85 is very easy to do if you have a Vishnu OpenFlash Tablet.

It also work with variety of bolt-ons with preloaded maps. I personally run there e85 stage2 uel map and its AMAZING!!!

Pending a local gas station responding to my email and confirming they do indeed offer E85, I'm strongly considering making the switch. No flex fuel kit for me, 100% E85. I have zero experience with the stuff, outside of my hatred for E10. So I'm wondering:

What all needs to be done for a proper, long term, 100% E85 setup? I know you can just get a tune and go, but I want to do it right.

Is a tune alone all I need for smooth running performance and longevity, or should I seriously consider injectors, sensors, etc.? If so, what makes the additional parts necessary?

I believe I read somewhere that E85 doesn't get as good of mileage per gallon as regular gasoline. I'm not even sure if that's true or not, much less whether a tune would bring the efficiency closer to ethanol-free numbers. I don't really care about fuel economy, but considering this one station will be the only one within a 100 mile radius of my house, I'll pretty much be tethered to this store. Not really a deal stopper, but something I definitely will need to be aware of.

I'm also open to and would appreciate any other insight to the mysterious world of E85-onlyness.

+1 for OpenFlashTablet running an E85 tune NA. Loved it when I was running it. Handles e50 to e90 concentrations without a hiccup. Hit up @shiv@vishnu . Us Phantom ESC owners are waiting for The Phantom ESC e85 tune to be ready. Can't wait.

You're correct on the top two, on the third Flex Fuel is good but not required if you're running an OpenFlashTablet, where @shiv@vishnu's tune can handle about e50 to e90 without a flex fuel kit. An issue you left off was that with e85 cold weather start issues can arise, simply add 1 gallon of pump 91 to 9-10 gallons of e85 and it will start up on the first crank.

Awesome, if you're moving into Orange County don't be afraid to hit up me or @WRB5titch we're the other two Phantom ESC guys in this area. If San Diego I think that's @Sojhinn and @nlowell. If L.A. there are a few others, everyone is in the Phantom ESC owners thread. Can't wait for the e85 Phantom tune.

since there is some ridiculous misinformation here in this thread ill post. Ive been running e85 for 8,000 miles straight. Zero pump gas. I also ship my e85 and store it since its not available here. I daily drive my car, but also travel a lot meaning my car sits for weeks on end with e85 in it. I run no ECA but I do check the e content of my barrels. If you have questions about ethanol ask.

How much does the alcohol content vary barrel to barrel? I'll likely be only purchasing from the same brand/station and thus hoping it'll be pretty consistent.
