If you're going to wait out the warranty or just don't care you should just boost it anyway. Although I am biased as I like Turbos as opposed to SC.

The warranty doesn't bother me and my swap is happening soon so it was going to be canceled anyway.....as for newer cars I am waiting for the NISMO version of the GTR to be released and I will be picking that up.....a 2JZ FRS for a DD and NISMO GTR for my weekend warrior is what I have planned

My reason for getting the car... It was a gorgeous rwd lightweight sports coupe that had solid reviews. I also love the fact that it is an awesome platform and easily customized/modded. However, whether or not one of those mods should be FI is still up in the air!

Then if you love the car that much you should start planning out the mods b/c it's doubtful that Toyota is going to have anything better within the next 2 years (regardless of the 2015 mid-life renewal talk). You'll be able to enjoy your DI for 2 years and if a bunch of first gen owners start selling off for whatever does get relased yours will stand out to people looking to buy used. *2 cents*

Pretty much my thoughts. If you're determined to wait until the warranty is up, then you fouled start saving up money for your FI mods or start vying them a little at a time.

I say go for it. Toyota/Subaru might release a more powerful boosted model, but I can almost certainly promise you that it will cost too much for what you get.

Yeah that is how I am looking at it. Putting some many miles on the car, I hate to kill the warranty now. So I will stick it out and then after that FI will probably happen.
I've got 23k on mine right now. Pretty sure I will have 30k by Dec for sure. But I got mine certified pre-owned so I'm on the 100,000 mile warranty

The cost

Toyota/Subaru might release a more powerful boosted model, but I can almost certainly promise you that it will cost too much for what you get.[/QUOTE]

Vortech $5230
radiator 350
oil cooler 650
injectors 120
taxes cdn 825.50
installation 1000

Total 8175

So if the upgraded engine is anywhere near 294 horsepower and the price difference is less than $8000 more than MSRP, then I will be interested. If not then I will start purchasng the list above next fall.

LOL.

Certainly you realize that on the supplier end it would cost Toyota/Subaru about 25% of that cost. Right?

And don't forget tune, and the fact you pretty much threw away your warranty on your engine.

That said, keep in mind the manufacturer will quote horsepower/torque at the crank. The aftermarket is usually quoting hp/tq at the wheel. That can be a pretty big difference as you usually lose at least (depending on where you live) 15% by the time the power gets to the wheels. So if the manufacture claimed 275hp and 250ft lbs torque expect something like 230ish hp and 210ish ft lbs torque at the wheels. And you may still have to beef up the car after that for the track.

Yep! Same with all the other parts I have listed. Free enterprise society. people will pay for what they want. This car is a want not a need, we are all swapping out perfectly good parts for other parts. I guess my preference is that I would rather have a brand spanking new, warrantied FI vehicle than install the aftermarket add ons. Having said that, unless I can swap out all the parts I have on my current FRS to the new model, I will be keeping my FRS and adding the vortech supercharger. This is also a good time to thank all those individuals who have gone FI as their experiences have been an invlauable education on what to expect when I get mine done. Great forum. :happy0180:

And then the manufacturer will mark it up 100% to cover R&D, profit, etc. Cause they can.

I really don't understand why people in this forum think that Subaru can get away with using Porsche's financial model. Not even Subaru charges that much for their own model upgrades! (WRX -> STI). The logic and precedent just isn't there.

Celica GT and Celica GTS

I have a feeling it will be similar to the GT and GTS versions of the Celica. In canada it was around a $7000 difference for I believe 45 more horsepower and leather seats. If that's the case here then Vortech here we come.

im in the same boat, 5 months and already 17k. too much fun. simply letting the warranty run its course and by the time its near the end i will most likely have exhausted the benefits of the warranty anyway. hopefully by then, many of these concerns will disappear. just gonna have to hit the gas a little harder until then
by the time the new model/power increase comes out, if you drive a lot, you most likely won't have the warranty anyway
