This. Any reason why you would ditch VANOS? Aftermarket cams maybe?

![]() Ptuning is developing their kit on E85 and use ONLY Port Injectors, did not want to use the DI system. Yes definitely it can be done. ('I'm pretty sure it's Ptuning, but it may have been other shop. Still, I am 100% sure there is someone developing a turbo kit and disregarding the DI system completely).

I would have to think you'd run into detonation problems also without the "cooling" effect of DI. The stock piston just looks to have all kinds of sharp edges that could hotspot, and with cast 12.5:1 pistons and pump gas you don't have much room for error.

NA FA20 is BRZ/FRS only (JDM Legacy GTs have a turbo version). FB20 is used elsewhere; it's very different though - smaller bore/longer stroke, so not a horsepower engine (~145HP). Also, 10.5:1 I think, so it can use pump regular.

From what I read, yes. If you're looking for a narrow but intense powerband, ditching VANOS and running aggressive cams can get it, I guess. Mainly, though, I think it's ditched because it's hard to deal with and control. That's the same reason some tuners early on her just going port. It made the job easier, especially with other tuning solutions than the standard two.

You're better off swapping to a EJ20/25 motor than removing the D4S injection system. Save you more grief too.

I get the normal crackle from the exhaust and occasional backfire, but that's totally normal. Sometimes concern is raised, but for the most part, I really was just curious on the advantage/disadvantage of removing D4S. If this puppy blows, I do have an EJ25 block... But at that point, things will get silly. Screw selling it, I LOVE this car. |

Pump gas with big turbo it might be super trick to re purpose the DI's to spray methanol or alcohol or ethanol while leaving the ports for the pump gas. E85 just keep the DI's and adjust the start of injection time to maximize cooling.
