Had a blast at this event. Definitely the most challenging track I've been to so far. Luckily, I didn't have any brake problems. I managed to reach my goal of beating Mike Skeen, but only by 2 10ths of a second. Not to mention he was in a bone stock car with a passenger.

Any ways, here's a video of me running in Blue group. Fastest lap (2:24.63) is at 17:35 in the video

Here's another video of me almost losing it over one of the fastest turns

@swift996 - Hope you get your brakes fixed. See you at the Summit Point Shenandoah event in October.

Prices range, I'll be doing the event in October at Summit Point but just one day ($260 for Sat). I don't get insurance but I think you can find plans for about $220 or so and many offer day 2 for free and cover an additional driver. I've looked at ducting but haven't figured out my plan yet.

If you sign up before Sep. 13th you will save $35, so $225 for one day or $365 for two for the Shenandoah event. As for insurance I have been using www.OnTrackInsurance.com How much it will cost depends on how much you want to insure your car for. They cover mods, so I ended up insuring my car for $32,000 and so my total cost for a two day event ended up being $202 (I got a 10% discount for signing up for 4 or 5 events at once).

I really would like to go but don't think my car will be ready in time so I may have to postpone until the November event which is fine.

In that 'scary moment ' video, I'd say you weren't the only one to get light at that point on the track due to all the skid marks in the vicinity.

Same discount will apply for the VIR event. If you sign up 20 days in advance, you get the discount. That said, the VIR events are more expensive to begin with though.

There are skid marks all over the track, including the straights. I don't know how they get there. Anyway, I'm pretty sure my problem where I got loose was that I was taking that turn tighter than I needed to. In later sessions I let it track out to the exit curbing and was able to take the turn faster without any problems. It can be tough to do, especially at that turn since it is blind and you can't see the exit curbing at corner entry.

It's based primarily on experience, not how fast you are or how fast your car is. This event was my first in the intermediate (blue) group. I had done 2 events in novice (green) earlier this year. In novice you are required to have an instructor who will help you learn things and at the end, do an evaluation. Part of that includes whether or not you should change groups. You can also request an instructor in Blue, but its not required. I had one for some of my earlier sessions since I wanted some guidance around a new course. That and riding with an instructor in their car is a great way to figure out how to go faster.

The difference between the Green and Blue groups (other than instructor) are some of the rules on where to pass. I believe at VIR green was limited to front straight, straight leading to the Esses, and the back straight. Blue was allowed to pass wherever the wheels were straight, but most people stuck to the same areas as the green group. There is also a more advanced Black group that swift996 and SpeedLab were in that is allowed to pass anywhere with a point by. After seeing all the crazy fast cars in Black, I was quite content being in Blue group and not having to give 5 point by's every lap.

A lot of point-bys! I don't expect that many at Summit Point - Shenandoah though. I would have been more confident if my brakes were working which would have let me fend off some guys longer. It sucked, pretty much when I approached any passing area I looked in my rear view mirror and thought is that car fast enough? 27/30 times it was. Seeing a DP come up in your rear view is pretty neat though. I wish I could have pushed it more

My benchmark went from the Cayman R to an E30.

How about a yellow group for first timers who'd piss their pants if passed by a DP car??

I just found out the reason for a lot of those skid marks. Apparently there was a drift demo the day before.
