Thats the truth, and kind of sad about today's society, no one is to blame for their own mistakes. What ever new car I buy I won't be modding it like crazy, which is why I am wanting a NA motor, but 275 from a 2.0 is nothing to scoff at.

Standalone also cost alot if you want to do it right. Tuners have no problem tuning any car if you go standalone, but at $1500 plus tuning cost/installation they will make no money from that setup except for a few race guys.
Average 23k car owners will not have $2-3k to dump on a tune. $500 dollar flash? I guess a few month of eating nothing but oatmeals and rice will help get you there. Its the same motor structure as the EVO. Mitsu tuners are flashing ECUs left and right with great results at an affordable price. Hyundai needs to figure that part out if they want the GC 2.0 to be more popular. The hp increase will draw buyers but if the aftermarket cannot mod it its not going to be a top choice to enthusiasts who are financially limited. The BRZ/FRS will have huge aftermarket support simply because japanese tuning companies usually get access pretty quickly to japanese cars and the aftermarket is part of the car culture it seems. Being a small displacement NA/High comp/DI motor the hp tuning limit will probably be limited compared to the GC 2.0 motor. |

it's cars that have a gigantic following if you notice there hasn't been a "new performance car" on the market in quite a long time.. It's still the same old cars using the same configurations.. It's still Evo's running nearly the same software..Sti's running EXACTLY the same software, Honda's which have been reliant on piggybacks since their FIRST Ecu and every other car has been discontinued.. Evo X's took a fair bit of time before people started unlocking the ECU New BMW's..Locked ecu's are getting upgraded every 4-5 months to make it more and more difficult for 3rd partytuners GTR..Locked ecu... The differences with these cars is that the demand for them to be unlocked is unsightly... The GTR had prince's biting at the heels of tuners to play with their ECU before they even recieved delivery on their cars.... BMW's have a following unlike almost any other brand, and not many big cost cars can pull in aftermarket support like them so naturally BIG companies who thrive off of ONE brand only like Turner Performance and HPF are going to be working long nights to make sure the manufacturer stays one step behind. And EVO's are damn near disposable these days, face it people buy the cars to run them ragged. Hyundai on the other hand JUST got it's foothold in the market. Hyundai for ONE can't afford even further negative publicity for one.. TWO of all the tuner cars out there in this "league" especially of the "factory turbocharged" variety..Hyundai has the most lenient and lowest turn away warranty fix of ANY car company. Mitsubishi will turn your car away if they sold it to you with three wheels and lose lugs...Subaru offers to void your warranty for you when you buy an STi by inviting you to subaru events..And don't start with the GTR and it's warranty debacle.. If you put Hyundai in the same situations as these WELL well established companies in the midst of their 20-30 year old products Hyundai is going to fail 10 times out of 10. Cars have locked ECU's today..they do...MOST cars have locked ECU's and unlocking them isn't common.. Just because you hear about it on 1% of the cars produced doesn't mean it's a common occurance. Go get the ECU unlocked on a VQ35/37 powered maxima...It's a much more PITA task than getting it done on a Z, same for Altima's Sentra SpecV's and other cars people say "why would you bother tuning it we have another car you can tune go buy that instead" Let the Gen coupe be on the market for 1/4 the time of it's chief competitors then we can start saying "well this car doesn't have ANY aftermarket this is ridiculous get it out of here" until then remember R&D takes time and producing products that you can sell to the public that turn their vehicle into something even more life threatening takes alot of time. |

Wall of text...
Basically you just felt like arguing with someone today. I really don't care, the GC has no aftermarket and whatever the reason it is what it is. A factor in people's buying decision. |

In the olden days, we just installed piggy-backs/interceptors/boost controllers ourselves. Go figure...

Sounds easy huh...That is until you go to try and pass emissions and you fail because you are running a Standalone EMS that's controlling the parameters of the engine and the OBDII scanner can't get a reading for said sensors. Quote:

I'm in SoCal and I see modded GC's quite often. And from what I've seen there "must" be a large enough aftermarket backing, because the modded GC's I've seen are what you would normally consider heavily modded. So I don't know how anyone can say that there isn't an aftermarket backing for GC's. Sure you can say that compared to other makers there might not be comparable aftermarket backing, but I wouldn't say that there isn't a lot...

A quick search shows that it takes about $4000 dollars worth of aftermarket upgrades to hit about 300 hp. Seems the turbo needs to be upgraded along with fuel system and bolt-ons. That makes a 300 hp genesis at about $27000.00 but with no warranty at that point. Not the most worthwhile investment really.
Explains why people just go for the 3.8. Hopefully the new 275hp 2.0 will already have some of the upgrades from the factory. |

You and Dragon are both clueless when it comes to the GC aftermarket. Stick to what you both know.
