wow, you guys aren't kidding...pretty awesome Gundam!!
00 Raiser: ![]() ![]() ![]() Wing (Zero?) EW Action Figure (ultra rare and $$$): ![]() ![]() ![]() Buster Gundam: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RX-0 Unicor Gundam Banshee Destroy Mode: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I haven't purchased a model kit since i was 18. at the time I bought Gundam Epyon. the stupid thing kept falling apart and that was probably down to the fact I didn't have whole lot of patience for doing stuff like that like I do now. I figure sometime in the new future I'll give another one of these model kits a shot. this time I'd like to take the time reading up on putting these things together and painting them so I can do a more than decent job and have something that looks pretty spiffy at the end of it all. for the immediate future I'll be purchasing one of the action figures.

I've been thinking about getting another model kit also. Nowadays I simply don't have the time. Certainly a fun little hobby when you are kid when you had all the time in the world.

If Gundam is truly based on the proportion of a human being, it must have the longest legs of anyone. Its leg portion is greater than the sum of head, neck, and torso. Can you find a real life body (without high heel shoes) like that?
And talk about high COG. Many Gundam models are top heavy!! That is the reason why that early Gundam models always fell down after a while since its knees cannot handle the weight on the top, especially with the ones that has wings (Gundam Wings) or full weapon systems (Impulse, Strike Freedom and others). In the last few years Bandai has reinforced the knees of their models with more friction so that the models can stand, or they just provide a support frame to hold the model.

Basically in a gundam model, everything from the knees down should be oversized because of the weight and CoG of the torso. So i can see why the Gundam leg proportion is awkward, especially when comparing it to the human anatomy.
Building a gundam reminds me of Armored Core and Mechwarrior. Becuase it really was more focused on engineering. But obviously Gundams power plants use something that rival arc reactors. lol Wing Zero Custom Body Frame

Wait, are we on the *off-topic* section? Yes.. OK. Just continue on this Gundam thing. If you look at the knee section of a perfect grade Gundam Wing and a regular one, you can see that for the perfect grade it two turning point instead of one. That is the improvement for the perfect grade and it has trickled down to the master grade as well. Earlier models only have one turning point. I guess this two turning point system helps the model to stand better than the earlier version. It is funny though, if you imagine like the 00 Raiser Gundam with such a top heavy proportion, wouldn't it just like the main character of many American hero comics with a top heavy proportion?

Get those kits from Japan, it would be much cheaper. It just takes 10days longer to get here.

Japanese Based
www.rainbowten.co.jp highly recommended. www.hjl.com I never buy from the US based one, but I know one www.gundamstoreandmore.com suspicious for some reasons.

I will second Dark's recommendation of hlj.com; I've purchased over 17 models from them over the years - from various Gundam series.
I have a Serpent Custom, Deathscythe, Deathscythe Hell, Wing Gundam, Wing Zero, and Shenlong from Gundam Wing. Gundams X and Double X and a couple other units from Gundam X, and a handle full of Gundams from the other series. Personally, Wing is my favorite series followed by Gundam 00, Gundam 08th MS Team, and Gundam X. |
