Does it count if someone said this (within earshot of me, but didn't know I was the owner):

"F'in asshole. What a nice car, I think I'm going to steal it".

I told him I'd just get another one while he'd probably get a free ride in the back of a police car .

Coming from someone who drove nothing but german cars up until now, I have to say that I found a common factor with all the people that hate BMWs/Porsches:

1) They can't afford one

2) They have an entry level sport(y) car (FRSs, Sis, Evos, Mustangs) as their only car.

3) They buy/use cars not for the joy of driving, but rather because they "need them" on their lives to try to feel better (compensate) for other parts of their lives not doing so well.

BMW makes great cars, above all, FUN cars. Which can't be said the same for most luxury brands.

Japanese premium brands (not really automakers) are just trying to sell.

German/British premium automakers: Focus in luxury, attractive technology.

American premium automakers: Really.....? (expect the new ATS).

Just asking....
Looking at the under $100k price tag, affordable luxury automakers, who makes the most fun, sporty and driver oriented vehicles in the market?

what other brand if not BMW would you consider to be "awesome" for the market of affordable vehicles?
It is a bit of a challenge trying to figure out your points. Logic and credibility are elusive in your statements.

Here is where logic seems to go by the wayside:

  • "BMW/Porsches". How did Porsche get into the discussion? It is certainly not a brand that I mentioned. By what logic did you glue the two together?
  • "Coming from someone who drove nothing but german cars up until now, I have to say that I found a common factor with all the people that hate BMWs/Porsches:" What is it about only driving german cars that gives you special insight into common factors for BMW haters? Couldn't any person come up with your conclusions? Or are people who drive Japanese cars too fact-based to come up with your free-floating insights?
  • "...as their only car". Are you saying that BMW haters never own more than one car? I would put that in the credibility section, but it is too preposterous.
  • "They buy/use cars not for the joy of driving, but rather because they "need them" on their lives to try to feel better (compensate) for other parts of their lives not doing so well." I suspect we all have parts of our lives that are doing not as well as others. But you are implying that people who buy BMW's never do so to feel better about themselves. I would like to present that statement in front of a panel of BMW salespersons and marketers and see what they say. It's always nice to open with a good joke. Apparently those who buy cars like the FR-S, SI etc... do not do so for the "joy of driving."
  • "Japanese premium brands are just designed to sell". Hmm, so if you want to become the top-selling luxury brand, all you have to do is design cars for selling. That's brilliant! the car doesn't have to be fun, it doesn't have to feature "attractive technology" (whatever that means) and apparently doesn't even have to focus on luxury like the Germans and British do.
  • "BMW makes great cars." Remember the discussion was about awesomeness, not greatness. Awesomeness is about breaking new grounds of excellence by creating something that hasn't been done at the same level before, greatness is about being in the top level of excellence.
Here is where credibility seems to go by the wayside:
  • "They can't afford them." Where did you get financial data on all the people that hate BMW's? Do you have a cousin at the NSA?
  • "They have an entry level sport(y) car". Do you have another cousin at the DMV? Is it possible that a BMW hater might drive a Corolla or Juke?
Maybe your cousin can answer that burning question?
According to you, people who hate BMW's do not enjoy driving, they own only one cheap sports(y) car, they cannot afford more than the car they have. Also, according to you, an "affordable" car is one under $100,000. That's roughly twice the average family income.

Your subtext is that the people who do not like BMW's are:
  1. Poor (cannot afford)
  2. Miserable (unable to have fun)
  3. Pathetic (compensating for a sucky life with an entry-level sport car)
  4. Bigots and killjoys (they are jealous of the wealthy, multiple car owners and cannot enjoy FUN luxury)
So, wait.... I'm confused? Who is the hater?

Wow...looks like I hit a nerve right there.... I apologize.

My point was, which other Premium/luxury automaker delivers a better driver's experience than BMW. Better yet, which one focusses exclusively in the performance/sport aspect of their premium vehicles more than BMW? (inside the $100k price).

Why was I asking you that?
Because I assumed, since you are here in these forums, that you own a FRS/BRZ, therefore you probably enjoy driving/enjoy sports cars. It would make logical sense to me, that you would also enjoy/support (or at least don't hate) BMW, since from all the premium brands out there, it's the one that focusses the most in driving experience and performance.

It would be a complete different situation if this was a I don't know...F-150/truck forums or some redneck car like that, then of course I wouldn't try to make a point or even reply to the thread, because I know for that audience, BMW is certainly something pointless, and they do have legitimate reasons to think that automaker sucks (335is don't necessarily do very well at towing, or muddin').

But in these forums, I found it curious, that someone was so dismissive of BMW as a whole. Sort of like the audience in a Porsche forums will share fairly similar opinions about trucks and american cars, vs lets say....BMW, or Audi.

Now, the side-dish comment I made, was meant to point out a very personal opinion based on my experience driving german vehicles, nothing else. Is that true about everyone that hates BMW? possibly not.

I mean, I clearly stated "what I found out through the years..." "about people that hate BMW". Again, personal experience/opinion. I was just simply throwing it out there, however it seemed to hit a nerve hehe.

Anyways, my point was (before I got derailed), this is a FRS/BRZ forum, this specific thread is about people "hatin' " on our cars. I simply found it curious that someone would be dismissing another (brother?) automaker that focusses in performance, specially considering that BMW is another class above the cars we are driving/discussing here. (again, assuming you are here because you drive a FRS/BRZ). That's all, no need to get all defensive.

What's their definition of a real car? If we want to spend less than $30K. The only sporty/fun cars I can think of that fall into this criteria are the twins, genesis coupe, civic SI, and Mini Cooper maybe. Are these my only options?

seems like a pretty obvious choice here...

I would add a GTI, WRX, Mustang, Camaro, and Abarth in there. Yes I said Abarth.

Hating on any car is for ignorant losers who most likely cant afford said car. Sure you can have stronger feelings towards one maker as apposed to another but to hate a car or its driver just says that in some way the car has made you feel bad about yourself, probably financially.

Completely agree.

See the posters above "trying" to hate on BMW, that was exactly the point I was trying to make.

Little off topic but my buddy got me tossed out of a BMW dealership when I was trying to buy a car. I told them I was going to pay cash for a used car I liked there and then the sales man said "hmm... I'm surprised you can afford it" my buddy went off and I ended up getting a legacy instead from the subru dealership down the road.
