If it was something like drilling holes in the front bumper and you didn't approve, they replace the whole bumper. In this instance its literally everywhere. |

I didn't think dealerships pulled the rust proofing/undercoating scam anymore.

That's bullshit! Go with friends and tell them they need to pay for the damage. It's very hard to remove, true but it's not your problem and you are no the cause. They are.
Today at the dealership, they installed my panels they damaged, and after inspecting, they damage my door panel and passenger armest cover and they tried saying they are not responsible and that in the removal process it happens. I told them the people tinting my window had to remove panels and nothing happened. The issue is, they are paid by the job and the technicians rush the jobs and don't care about the car. They are liable for their workmanship and no scratch or damage should be apparent. Same goes with the crappy rust proofing job. They should clean it and apologize for it.

Holy shit!
The rustproofing usually cleans up with acetone. (which can fuck up your paint if left to sit.) I've never tried to remove it after fully cured though. Normally they just use a tube and spray 360 degrees inside the rails and core support. I rust proof any frame/rocker/qtr panel repairs I do at my shop and I cannot imagine how they mess up that bad. Grab a lawyer if not just to help intimidate them. Have a few pro detail shops do it and then forward the bill to the dealership. The dealer will do everything to not replace the car (so no new car.) They would pull the engine and repaint the bay before they did that. |

Totally understand why OP wanted to get their car rust proofed. I got mine undercoated because of the harsh winters and salt and everything else on the road in the winters here in Canada, but luckily I didn't pay for it (they forgot to charge me for it).
If mine looked this bad, I would have refused to take the car since I got mine done prior to delivery. I would ask them to fix it AND take care of anything else they damage while cleaning up that bukkake session. If not, lawyer up for sure. |

Dealer installed rustproofing is just another dealership rip off. By the time a Japanese car gets to a dealership in North America it is far too late to add any rustproofing without thorough cleaning and drying of all the required areas. Rustproofing exterior surfaces does next to nothing. Rust attacks cars from inside the panels. Applying rustproofing aftermarket is as likely to seal in rust causing moisture and air as exclude it. Two types are used: flexible epoxy coatings for exposed underbody and waxy coatings for inside box sections and insides of susceptible panels. Ordinary car body paint is the primary anti corrosion method with galvanizing or electrophoretic painting of the bare metal followed by the final colour. No modern car should rust significantly for at least ten years. |

Yup, get a lawyer. Not only does rustproofing not work on modern cars that are galvanized, but the installer lowered the value of the car. The Brooklyn Bridge is in Canada, right?

If they applied the waxy coating type, can't they just steam clean it, like one would do to remove the cosmoline from mosin nagant?

I put my car on the lift last weekend.. And it's already coated from the factory everyplace it needs to be. That's unreal that they can screw up something so bad that's already been done to the car from the factory!
Good luck getting it cleaned up.. |
