big brake kit?
for you that have a kit, which kit and what are your specs on wheels? i'm having trouble finding out what will fit and what won't with my setup.

Most BBK companies have printable wheel fitment templates (example). Print the templates in real size and take one wheel off the car to test the fitments.

Will we be needing to change things like bigger brake pump(cyinder) when changing BBK? Or just calipers and rotors? I was wondering that whether the stock pump is big enough for 4 or 6 piston caliper front and 2 or 4 piston caliper rear or not.

In short, more pistons means each piston is smaller so the fluid volume required stays pretty much the same as long as the kit is well designed. Unless you're doing it for the bling, you'll be far better off just getting better pads/fluid.

Sounds cool. Actually IMO most people do this for bling. Cuz the stock caliper are 2 piston front and 1 piston rear with suck pads. So upgrading pad will fulfill most peoples' requirement, even for those with turbo or supercharger kit.
BBK do improve the look of a car a lot. Quote:

I'm running 225/45 Dunlop Z2's which the stock pads couldn't lock up at all, the new pads have plenty of bite and way better heat capacity.

that bbk money could get you along ways towards FI kit, or a na tune and all the exhaust goodies. like wparsons said, alot of people, including me have ran upgraded pads and fluid on the stock brakes and had great luck.

If you want another more affordable big brake upgrade. You should look at the '05+ Subaru Legacy GT brake setup. It's only 2pot front, 1pot rear but the brake front brake rotor is 12.3" and the rear I forgot but 11.7" I think? I have it on my '98 2.5RS and since the brakes on the FRS/BRZ are designed by Subaru. The LGT brakes looks like they just might fit, you might have to switch the caliper around, driver side to passenger side, since the brake setup on the FRS/BRZ are towards the front.

A well tuned BBK will have piston sizes ideal for use with the factory hydraulic system on the car.
Unfortunately many of the "kits" are universal calipers with brackets and rotors made to fit the car not considering piston tuning. This does not apply to all kit but to some. This is a reason I am hesitant to do a swap because I don't know the piston sizes to BMC comparing other cars.... They may "work" but not ideally. Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4 |
