My wife's car is a Honda CR-V which we're very happ with and is a good match for my FR-S. Yes, I'd have no problem if it were a Prius. We would probably have one now had I not been a little reluctant to buy one because of the cost to replace the battery system after the warranty ran out.

- I wouldn't drive a Prius as a daily driver. Not because it's too slow or dorky (I don't really care), but because I want a car that gets me excited to drive. Having a fun car as a daily driver helps immensely when you have to find motivation to drive to work in the morning or after you've just finished a long day of work. I can't see a Prius ever getting me excited to drive. - My current DD/practical car is a MK6 GTI hatch. Seats 4-5 easily, has a lot of cargo space for its size, and is a DSG which helps with bad traffic. The irony is my FR-S has essentially replaced it as my daily driver because it's just practical enough to be driven daily and is more fun to drive.

Assuming I was pigeonholed into a practical car for a daily driver, sure, I'd do it. We test drove a standard Prius as a potential replacement of the Camry, before ultimately just deciding to keep the Camry until we really need to replace it.
Plenty of room. Much larger inside than I expected, especially in the back seat. That little electric motor has a decent bit of grunt to it off the line, too. It's not going to win any performance awards but it could get out of its own way. On top of that these look like they're turning out to be some of the most reliable newer cars out there, and while the batteries will need to be replaced at some point, that's coming out to be thousands less than originally expected. There will always be Prius haters. F' em.

considered it just to free up cash from our TDI (were like $8000 positive equity) but decided it is literally a worse vehicle all around except mpg. were both 12k mile a year drivers and decided it just isn't worth it...and likely wont ever be to destroy the amusement of driving what we own now.

Unless you're towing/hauling tons of stuff every single day, I really don't get the point of having a daily driver for an 86. It's not like it's some rare collectible irreplaceable exotic. If you do the math it's much cheaper to wear out the 86 faster than it is to own/insure/maintain two (new) vehicles. Not to mention it would involve driving a boring car most of the time.

Could buy a used ecobox that easily gets 40 mpg for a less than 10k and spend the savings on the gas for the life of the car, probably have more left over. Once a car like the prius C is the same price as a car like the Yaris, then it will make economical sense. Until then it is just the option if you want to feel good saving the environment or at least look like you are.

Absolutely. It's not like gas will get cheaper anyway.
