Every now and then switching speeds on the highway but nothing to extreme like wide open throttle.

Don't worry the DI failure has nothing to do with shifting over 5200 rpm it happens because of detonation with the factory tune. Toyota knows this or they wouldn't have replaced your short block.

Look for an free calibration from the community that keeps the engine from detonating in a few weeks or so.

Until then use the best gas in town and try to drive right around 2.5k to 3.5k rpm varying constantly with the new shortblock.

Thanks for that info, I'll be on the look out for that calibration. I only use 93octane fuel but all fuel here contains ethanol, I'm not sure if that makes any difference. Just to keep you all updated, I picked up my FR-S yesterday during my lunch break and it felt and drove like a champ. I left work later that night get home and let it sit for a while. about an hour later I decide to take it for a spin to feel it out a little more and then another issue arises, My freaking wont start. I tried everything and nothing, so it's back at the dealership for another week. I swear its like I wasn't meant for this car.

hang in there. A Lot of us have felt this way for similar reasons. It is stressful and disheartening but you will make it through and you will have options. Just remember the longer that one sits at the dealer the closer you are to lemon law.

Awstryker, If you don't mind me asking, what were the initial signs of failure or problems that lead to a new short block?

If you want more assurance, visit this page: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

The picture when comparing the two piston heads convinced me enough.
Is that the photo that shows a clean piston head that's caused by the rings being run in better and hence sealing better..............on the piston crown that's in the combustion chamber ABOVE the rings?
