had a 99 explorer with custom cold air intake, 4.10 gears, dual exhaust, big p&p tb, big maf, pulley fan delete/electric fan install, underdrive pulleys, tune, headers ect...

headers were 400. tune was 350. headers u can barely feel compared almost all the other mods.

tune, intake/tb was the best of all mods

Did you really just compare a 99 Explorer to the twins?

have fun paying for a retune unless you going E-tune which is fail.

That has exactly 0% relevance to an FRS/BRZ.

For relevant info, it depends on what you're trying to achieve. A good header and tune will totally erase the torque dip and give you a good bump up top, either alone won't erase the torque dip, but will give you a good increase across the rpm range.

A header alone will give good gains, but it really needs a tune to wake it up.

Thumbs up

my explorer is faster than the stock brz. lol. not much to say.

prove me wrong.
give me dyno #'s for a stock brz with tune
and #'s for a stock brz with headers

what gives you more of a gain?
tune.
thanks

relevance? he asked which mod will give more gains. not if they compliment each other. we already know they compliment each other. so relevance? what %? zero? lol

so was your answer?
headers? or tune? because you didnt answer the question(but i did). you just tried to knock mine.

i say a tune. whats your answer parson? and dont tell me some bull***t about your torque dips, crabs and other personal problems lol.

^^ Seriously?? The 0% relevance is because you compared an SUV engine to the FRS/BRZ engine, which are 100% different beyond being combustion engines. Saying headers did nothing on that engine and a tune did only proves that the stock headers on it are relatively good while the stock tune was terrible. That gives no indication at all of how similar mods will react on this platform. Are you going to suggest a bigger TB too since that worked on your explorer??

As for tune vs. header, a good header alone will give better gains than a good tune alone but really needs a tune to provide full gains. Header + full exhaust will give way more than a tune, but add a tune and it'll be even better again.

The only thing i'd worry about with going headers prior to tuning would be air/fuel ratio....

That being said it seems to be fine from what I've read.

Headers on this platform make more alone than any other mod.

I'd rather have an etune from a good tuner vice "custom dyno tune" from a place that's never touched a 86.
