It's sad when companies get so caught up in the numbers game they start removing driver involvement to make it faster.

In the not too distant future the driver will be the weak link.

Lets be honest, I reckon 65% of the people on this forum would buy the M4 if their situation permitted it.

Personally the interior on the new BMWs is too bland for my liking. Yes it is quality, luxurious and ergonomic, but there is something missing

I think people WANT to buy automatic cars, that is why car manufacturers make/sell auto cars. People even buy auto twins..what does that tell ya

The twins (high spec GT86 and BRZ Limited) have many of the things you'd find a luxury car, but not executed to the level of a luxury car. What do you want at $30K OTD? In any case, it's kind of obnoxious that you can't really find many good sports cars that aren't also luxury cars or executive/businessman cars. The BRZ does well in regard; BMW...well, they're not so sporty outside of their muscle cars (///M) and their muscle cars are quite luxurious as well. Thankfully, those who pine after and enjoy Euro cars can easily afford them after a few years of depreciation.
Agreed, but it's funny that two of my favorite luxuries from the 550i, the heated seat and heated steering wheel, were only necessary because they were both leather. I have not been through a winter with the FR-S, but I know that the seats aren't going to freeze me, because they're cloth.

I do miss the seats. Damn, those were nice seats.

If I were buying a high-powered race car, I would certainly choose a modern automatic like a DCT. Flappy paddles are faster than me, no doubt. However, if I choose fun, I choose manual. Porsche and BMW are apparently going for speed and comfort over involvement. The last GT3 will be a classic fer shizzle.

Im waiting for them to release the m2 to upgrade my e92 m3. I think it will have a similar detuned m4 engine weight less and cost less.

Pure luxury, maybe... Sport luxury like the M3... the road noise is atrocious!! I though I had gone deaf after driving 1500 miles last month... switched to my 530 and it was quiet... except for wind noise... Neither of the bimmers have heated seats or heated steering wheel...

BMW's are pretty spartan to be honest...

E90 interior

E39 interior

No, you just didn't tick the option sheet and get gouged for another $10-15K.

The only thing missing from my E39 is the POS nav...

The M3 is basic though... but that's cause my dad hated the iDrive... and all the somewhat worthy options included iDrive...

No manual!? Whaaaat? I don't think this would stop me from getting this car though since the DCT is really good from what I hear.
I was going to say no way they can make a next gen of the currently M3 look better since it looks perfect, but wow this looks pretty damn good.

Awww no, no manual? D: Honestly, I don't care that the E90 M3's manual gearbox is geared a little too short for street driving and if the automatic is pretty much better in every way; the enjoyment of rev matching, especially when you have a beautiful engine like that, is a big part of the experience for me. It seems like a waste to have a rev happy engine with a chilling exhaust note when your foot doesn't have 100% control over it.

I guess I'll have to get an E90 someday, it'll be a classic.

I took my GTI w/DSG out to the track this past weekend. There were a good number of other GTIs running and it was interesting to me to see how much of a difference DSG made. My DSG was definitely quicker than the manuals -- I was keeping up with or passing GTIs that had 30+ hp on me pretty easily. But quick as it was, it just wasn't as fun as a true manual setup.

Just reinforces how disappointing it is that BMW would opt not to put a manual in the M4. I understand dual-clutch gearboxes are faster, but cars are being evaluated by numbers and laptimes when what should matter more is how fun they are to drive. So thankful for the Twins.

They've always been known to be spartan, but lately they've just gone plain bland and BMW's interiors don't do a thing for me anymore other than their nice and exude quality/craftmanship. Now the RS5 I recently sat it, just had it. Can't describe it, but if you sat it one and it didn't do anything for you you might need a kick in the nuts. IMHO, Audi has just got it right when it comes to nice quality interiors and lately their exteriors too.
