People are getting all bent out of shape that Rota made a press release saying please watch out for counterfeit wheels being sold as Rotas.

I get what they are saying those, some company is manufacturing wheels with the Rota name on them, that is what they are upset about.

I'm sure if Rota actually put VOLK or ADVAN on the wheels they make, they would get sued in a heartbeat.

Yeah I mean it's a bit different because you can't really copyright a wheel design apparently. Rota seems to be upset about the business name aspect.

This one's great haha... a 45. Thank you, just spiced up my morning coffee when I read 45.

Having read ~15 pages of the Visconti issue....brought back memories I'd like to forget.

That's true. It's a very interesting topic to explore apart from the LOL SOMEONE COPIED A COPY. I mean, not everyone can afford the real thing and Rota is basically providing awesome looking wheels for a fraction of the cost. And there's debate on whether or not they break more than a usual high performance wheel. But apparently Rota has good customer support if that does happen, plus they're heavily involved in racing/sponsorships etc. So that's gotta count for something.

Rota wheels are cast, they don't fail more often than any other cast wheel. 80% of the wheels for sale on TireRack.com are cast.

The wheels they copy are usually forged, and are stronger and lighter.

My 17x9 Rota Grids are 21lbs... 17x9 Volk TE 37SL are 17lbs

Right, let's not forget all or most OEM wheels are also cast.

The reason forged wheels tend to be lighter is that the forging allows them to make designs with less metal/alloy and still function properly. When you make a cast wheel, you simply need to use more metal to have the same functional strength and that's why the wheels are heavier. So a properly engineered cast wheel (like an OEM style) is just as strong if not stronger than a forged wheel.

Even name-brand bona-fide-JDM makers like Enkei and SSR make cast wheels. And I learned the hard way that even $700 Enkei M.A.T. (for "Most Advanced Technology") wheels will crack.

Not quite as exciting as a FR-S/BRZ sighting, but my god it's BEAUTIFUL! First one I've seen in red!

Was this in Alameda? There's some pretty funky cars out here (new and old). Recall seeing both a Hudson hornet and a 458 on the same (I'd assume regular) Fri night on Park st.

Yep, this was off of Park St.

Hudson Hornet?? Now there's one you don't see everyday.

Autox event at silverton in Vegas this weekend. Fastest car was a 90/91 civic hatchback runing a time of 45 sec. I believe it's the same set up as the track for 86 expo.

Fastest time of the day was a civic? Must not be any fast cars there. I guess I'm just used to seeing full-blown 500HP racecars at autoX.
