Automotive Photo Studio Day - Sat 8/24

Hey guys, I'm trying to gauge the interest among Bay Area 86ers in doing a studio photography day. I'm teaming up with another local automotive photog to do a series of "group buy" photo days at a studio in Livermore. It's a full size studio that has a 3 sided cyclorama wall and a 10’x30’ Chimera lightbank. Normally it's quite pricey to get a car in studio, but since we've secured a great rate for renting it out for a few weekends this summer, we're able to pass those savings along to anyone interested in having top notch studio photos taken of their car.

The first organized studio day will be Saturday, Aug 24. We'll likely have a variety of cars coming through over the course of the day, but if there's enough interest here, it could be primarily FR-S/BRZs.

We'll need a commitment of 5 cars to start off (some of these slots will likely be filled by cars from other communities). The more people/cars we can get to sign up, the better the pricing. Here's a breakdown of what is being offered:

  • 5 Professionally shot and edited studio photos
    • Photographed in 3-wall white cyclorama with 10’x30’ Chimera Light Bank
    • Five angles of your choosing (front ¾, rear, wheel detail, under hood, etc.)

  • Delivered within 9 days of the date of your photoshoot
    • Digital and Hard copies delivered

  • Printing Available for additional charge
    • You can order prints of any desired size for an additional cost. Wallet size or poster size, it can be done! Contact for exact pricing.

Group-Buy Pricing Breakdown

  • Payment Details
    • 50% Deposit due upon commitment
    • 50% Due on the day of the photoshoot
    • Payments accepted:
      • Cash
      • Paypal
      • Major Credit Cards

  • Pricing Breakdown
    • Minimum 5 People - $240
    • Minimum 7 People - $210
    • Minimum 9 People - $180

What time would this be? This is the same day as the Scion Sickness show in Lodi from 9-3pm... I was planning on showing my car but would also love to have my car as part of the photoshoot but I don't know how that would work time wise...

We've got the studio reserved all day, so we can have people sign up whenever is convenient for them. Each shoot (5 shots/angles) should take about 1hr. Perhaps a little longer if time permits. Let me know if you'd like to tentatively sign up for an evening slot.

Fascinating idea. Not my car for certain but another's non-86s would be worthy. Or were you looking just for 86s?

Some great photos David and what a great idea. I wish my cars were studio-worthy, but they're all sufficiently abused to the point that a studio session would just be cause for depression haha. Unfortunately I have another car meet I'll be attending on the 24th but hope this turns out well for you guys.

Don't know if it is something you want to do, but being an amateur photog trying to improve, I wouldn't mind attending and just watching/trying to learn a few things from the pros sometime (if it happens again after the 24th). If it helps I could bring donuts or pizza or something. But I understand if you'd rather not, since I could imagine you not wanting too many people getting in the way of the work being done.

Doing all makes and models. Except maybe no big rigs. Those would be a tight squeeze.

You'd certainly be welcome to come and check it out. The studio is in Apex Race Parts' warehouse in Livermore. Apex is having an open house the following Saturday 8/31, during which the photo studio will be open and we'll likely be doing some shooting demos. You should try to come by then!

Awesome shots David! Just like everybody else, my car is a DD and has the scars, bumps and bruises to prove it, you might have to put some serious hours in on PS to make my car look that good

Agreed. David has the eye and the equipment. Likewise, being a DD...it has its wounds. Lol you should see my front end now, it's matte blue with that clear-bra-in-a-bottle thang. I kinda like it and folks have inquired about it, to the untrained eyes they say it wrapped. I said it's an ugly wrap but luckily I could strip off anytime haha and only cost $15.

I may have a car or two (euros) for ya David. I'm waiting for him to wake his ass up. His either asleep or at the job affording 3 Euros and a truck haha

So, similarly to PMok, I'm trying to improve my skills. My DSLR is obsolete...what do ya think of the Nikon 7100? I'd like to attend as a spectator as well.

Thanks guys. I'm certainly used to fixing stone chips and blemishes in Photoshop, so don't let that worry you if you're interested in having your car shot. A matte blue front end though...that would be a challenge to match with the rest of the paint. Lol!

Jessie - thanks for the referrals. Feel free to pass along my contact info if either of them are interested. david bush photo (at) gmail dot com.

You guys should try to come out on the 31st. Being that the studio is in Livermore, maybe we could plan a Mines or Patterson Pass drive around it.

Definitely gonna try to make it out for the open house date. But there's a paintball meet planned for the same morning. Not sure if I will be going to that, but maybe people can swing by after the paintball match.

At the moment Patterson Pass > Mines. Mines is all gravelly due to some inexplicable road work going on.

By the way do you ever stop for photo shoots around Altamont? I found this one sweet spot right by some windmills/turbines that is pretty cool, along Midway I think is the road.
