Tested it on 2 other FRS's and the exact same symptoms. So I figure it was a ethanol related issue. afaik, it doesn't affect performance or drive-ability yet.

That's because it's temperature related! Different fuel mixtures have different density/cooling properties. The HPFP generates a lot of heat. Give it time.

Crickets last night. Filled up on empty this morning with ethanol free at a Mobil station. No crickets this afternoon even after driving for about 30 minutes in rush hour and the heat.

Are you saying it chirps more when hot? Funny, mine was quiet under hard driving in 110+ heat and noticeable when it was ~80 and I was taking it easy.

Very few people have found a repeatable relationship other than some with access to ethanol free.

I assume he means a range of engine temperatures in which there are chirps, which would actually make sense, given the currently suspected causes. Of course, as has been stated, its just conjecture. Just waiting for my crickets to fade away (probably sometime over the winter).

Sometimes my crickets are out in full force, sometimes my crickets are retarded and occasionally chirp here and there when idle. Temperature doesn't seem to affect it. I'm nearing 9.5k miles total on the same pump and nothing has changed.

100+ degree days, I get them loud. I could let the car sit for 10 minutes at home, come back out and drive and they're gone while idle. Engine is still warm.

I've tried different gases from Chevron 93 to Shell 93 to HEB 93 and get the same results across the board. There's no real pattern to it. It either happens and they're loud, or other times they are just slightly there or not at all.

Regardless, Toyota needs the real fix of just creating a new part. Hell, at this point, I'd buy an aftermarket fuel pump if someone made one, but I think no one wants to due to the complexity/reliability part. All just speculations..... I'll continue to keep waiting for the true fix.

I am at 100 mi and already have what I believe to be the crickets sound...

300 miles is the typical range for a tank of gas, the "problem" seems to surface after the first fill up, if 300 miles wasn't specified you'd get a bunch of guys posting the day they bought with < 100 miles on the odometer saying "mine doesn't chirp!" only to come back a week or two later with a chirping car unable to change their vote.

I've only been using Shell V-Power but I had my first fuel pump changed at around 3500 miles for the crickets and they came back at around 4000 miles. I let my dealer know and they told me the crickets shouldn't have come back and that I can change the pump again or wait for an updated version of it? So I waited and now I'm at 9700 miles and I think the crickets are worse now because I can also hear them while I'm driving, not just when I'm idling... Going to call and ask about it tomorrow though.

Hmm... cool i'll just probably wait until it comes back. thanks

Do you mean the car is moving at 35 MPH but the gear is in neutral and the engine is idling at 600 RPM?
Or do you actually mean the car is moving at 35 MPH and the gear is in 5th and the engine is running at 2000 RPM?

This chirping issue has been holding back potential buyers like myself for a while now. I'm really starting to wonder if it'll even be fixed in the 2014 at this rate.

I still hear the chirping while I'm in gear, moving, and engine running at over 2000 RPM.

I set up a service appointment yesterday (my analog speedo registers ~15 mph, when the car is sitting still), and mentioned the crickets. The advisor said they've had some success replacing pumps, so I figured I've got nothing to lose.

It really does sound like a tolerance stack issue. My first BRZ didn't ever have crickets, in 8900 miles.

I think you think this is more of an issue than it is. At this point, it just appears to be an annoyance, nothing more. Pull the trigger, you won't regret it
