It will catch more with the filter on the top as you will get more condensation in the can. It isn't catching more oil, just more water is getting in from the hot gases condensing. Reminds me I should drain mine when I get home.

Being proactive. I've been sitting in 95+ degree humid weather and heavy traffic, water temp doesn't even flinch. After spirited runs Oil temp usually does not go over 230-240, but before going to the track I NEED better cooling. Keeping the temps closer to 200 will also help the longevity of the engine.
