Unichip Jack.....Finding a stable tune for my new header??

I'm running a P&L header, Perrin overpipe, 2.5" Isis pipe/muffler with a 2nd cat delete, and a drop in filter with a Perrin silicone intake tube. I'm uding 93 octane and have tried the appropriate 'all header/all cat-back/all drop-in tunes with fuel+ and fuel-. I've also tried advancing the timing on these. I tired timing- for one run, but I'm not getting anywhere.

I notice very little difference between the tunes. They all seem to run rather well at first, but after a couple hours of driving I start having a rough idle, some hesitation when I hit the gas and an inconsistent engine running up the RPMs.

I had things working well before I added the header, but now....??? Help!

I had this exact same problem when I added my rev works header while using the unichip. It worked great for a while but started having the same issues that you are. My solution? Take off the unichip and get a tune. The unichip is a great product, but it can only do so much. :/

I'd like to believe the problem isn't the Unichip itself, but rather the lack of tuners.

there is a tuner near me (4 hours) and they want $300-400 an hour to tune the car.

Any word on getting a set of e85 map? I was following a thread on that for a while, but I believe it died off.

Seems unlikely in the foreseeable future.

No.
My guess is sometime next year.

@Unichip Jack has said that providing an e85 map is technically illegal and the fine is pretty outrageous, but that they are working with the EPA to have a valid legal way to do this. I don't know how accurate that is, but that's just what they have said so far and they have been pretty trustworthy to date.

Thanks for the posts.

enwave… spot on, thanks… although “completely” is more accurate than “technically.” As he says, we are and have been in e85 discussions with the EPA; we just spoke with them again this morning.

Rough running after installing a header isn’t a “tuning” issue… the header’s impact on an airflow based tune is actually pretty minor. It is an emissions issue.

It's not even really the header per se, if you use the same header with a cat (with a stock front pipe cat) you won’t have a problem. That’s why the header companies recommend you keep the cat.

Unfortunately, when you delete one or both cats, the OEM ECU quickly declares a cat efficiency fault (which all street legal vehicles must do) that results in a CEL and poor performance on some vehicles.

Beyond the timing and fueling changes for a header with cat, what the “no cat tune” does is turn off the cat code. Only problem is that’s completely illegal and what cost Edge Products better than 7-figures in fines and penalties… http://www.dieselnet.com/news/2013/01epa.php.

If you use an O2 spacer or spark plug non-fouler on the downstream O2 sensor port, you’ll avoid the fault code and should be golden.

Cheers

I opted not to go with the flux2 just because I use the OBD2 port for data logging and frankly just didn't have much use for it.
No sure if it is legit .. BT Module $237*. But the app is available*

Not sure about the 5-way, but I use the 3-way switch from Unichip Wholesale and it works great.
