If serious about buying a 370z to use on the track, I'd probably save the $3-4k from the sport package and upgrade the brakes, LSD, and oil cooler. Basically what the sport pack should have been.

I had the NISMO, nice car. Bought it for $30k (basically invoice) and sold it for $33k after 1.5 years. Got rid of it because every repair or part was insanely expensive. Boosting it costed > $8-9000. Glad the twins came out because my car is much faster than the Nismo ever was.

Other thing to consider is that the Nissan looks like a PITA to work on.
The twins on the other hand look like they were made to be modified. Of course this only matters if you can't resist modifying your car, but if you can, what are you doing joining a forum? My wife would love to see me get a CPO Cayman (they can be had for just a little more than a loaded BRZ) because she knows I'd just drive one of those but wouldn't be able to resist tearing a twin apart.

Bought a 2010 Nismo in 2011 with 15,000 miles used for $30k. I got a really big deal due to having pull at the dealership I bought it from.

I don't know where you're looking but people are selling 2012 Nismos around here for ~$35k. Not like it's a big deal or anything.

You can barely change the plugs on the FA20 without pulling the engine, anything beyond that, something as simple as a head gasket is pull the engine time. Also look at all the gaskets in general, that timing cover is a monster. The '86 is definitely a difficult and expensive car to work on. One guy (FRS300) blew his engine 6 months ago, it is still in the shop and its a toyobaru specialist shop with national recognition. Parts availability is worse than a Lotus Elise. You definitely don't want to have to do any major mechanical repairs on this car, right now its worse than a Porsche Boxster/Cayman as far as engine related repair costs. But things will get better if they continue to sell.
