I'd say tires are under rated because when people see modded FRS/BRZ's they get excited over seeing superchargers, wheels, exhausts and body kits but I haven't really seen many get excited over a set of yokohama advan neova ad08s or other great tires (IMO of course).

Both of these are subjective too. Weighted shift knob is unnecessary for some of us.

I do not really know what an "underrated" mod would be. I would lean towards driver mod being the most underrated and least thought about. However I do not think there is one thing I can point to and say that it is underrated because not all mods are needed everywhere.

I am a big fan of that blinky light signal someone posted about earlier, it seems to be an option on most cars these days.

Yeah, the drop-in air filter I heard is underrated.

Anyway, for me, a mod doesn't have to be a performance-enhancement, but basically anything that improves your car.

If you search you can find many many many threads talking about stock rims with better tires for autoX and touge style driving. Everyone is well aware of the tires..thats why i wouldnt call it under rated, not really talking about something attention wise under rated

One of my favorite "mods" by that definition of underrated then is really simple - pads for the seat belt. If you push the car, or track it, or AutoX it, the extra comfort on the shoulder is really helpful. No more seat belt biting.

But I'm going to vote driver mod as number one, with LED interior lights as a close second. It's nice to have that clean crisp bright white light when fumbling around in the cabin or the trunk.

That deer from 100 feet ahead could easily be avoided if you can see 100 feet in front of you and not just have glowing blue orbs as a light source. The stock FR-S headlights are actually pretty good when quality HID bulbs are installed. Me, I simply covered the squirrel finders (the blocks of light above the cutoff) to prevent glare to oncoming vehicles. This is enough for me while I'm building a real retrofit setup on my spare headlights. (Note: my image signature is out of date, I already sold my Mini H1 setup and is rocking the Demon Eyes for now)

Second, a good quality tint. I know I have that other thread here where I stated I paid $800 for my tint, but I have no regrets about it (the issue was resolved btw, they did install 3M 70% Crystalline all around). I like to keep nighttime visibility and want the best heat rejection out there so I went with this top-of-the-line tint. You can definitely feel the difference when it's sunny outside and you just got in your car and it's still cool inside. Except for the budget part, I don't get why people cheap out on tint. It's similar to how people buy cheap mattresses when they sleep on it 8 hours a day.

Third is a dash camera. How many times have you heard of people being blamed by the other party on an accident and have no evidence of any sort to prove that they are in the right of way? I have the BlackView 500 installed and always recording even when car is turned off (it's hooked up to a power saver thing to prevent the battery from being drained), so I have a chance of catching anyone doing anything to my car in the parking lot.

totally agreed on the first two!!! retrofitted BIXENON projectors (so much better) and got wincos film for 400$! that 80$ tint is not beneficial at all!!! Even in the hottest of summer days I don't feel that burning sensation on my arm frmo the sun anymore

Yeah i thought the same thing, until i bought one which was for cosmetic reasons..then i realized shifting was much easier and had a better feel to it, thats why i consider it under rated exacty for your repsonse

I have seen many many many threads regarding tires for track days on plenty of forums. But i'd still say tires are under rated (IMO). I mean look at the whole stance scene, it's huge, especially here in SoCal and most of those cars don't really care about tires (and I'm not hating). This is just my opinion though.

I really agree with you on the weighted shift knob though haha.

I'd say tires but everytime the Twins lose a track comparison, everyone screams tires like some pavlovian reflex, so maybe people already know.

Driver mod, camber bolts, all those seem like good suggestions too.

Driver mod for sure.
A good driver in a stock suspension fr-s on stock tires went some pretty insane and illegal speeds through the hill country. Yeah, he has a lot less fear of death than I do but to do that on stock tires and suspension is pretty impressive. After I found out he was on stock tires, I started to learn how to drive my car faster than I thought was possible.

The console/door knee pad is by far the most under rated mod for me.

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/2013-Scion-FR-S-Subaru-Console/dp/B00AJVX9D0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375998455&sr=8-1&keywords=scion+frs+knee+pad"]Amazon.com: 2013 + Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ Console/Door Knee Pad Set: Automotive[/ame]

I was on my way to getting osteoarthritis driving the frs, now I can rest my legs without the fear of limping after a good long drive!

I dont think the stance scene in the FRS/BRZ community outnumbers performance, and everyone who is performance oriented gets new tires as one of their first five mods (whether its with aftermarket rims its still TIRES) But i semi agree with you in a way, those stance guys are usually worst off with there stretched tires and ridiculous camber (it looks cool for show cars) :happy0180: The reason i say tires are NOT under rated is because thats one of the early mods everyone gets is rims with new tires..so how would that be under rated?
