Sure thing, haus. You said your car makes a noise when you turn off the engine.

We're talking about a noise that only occurs when the engine is on.

And I'm the idiot.

With the engine still off? Or when you restart it?
I notice more of the chirping noise when I turn it off .. Then start it again while the engine is still heat soaked.. But it also occurs randomly at other times as well. Just seems more repeatable when its been run and then sits for awhile..

Not sure I would go that route with 12.5 CR under the hood. I doubt it will affect anything other than cause some knock and ping..

Not quite. I know you like to use hyperbole, but in the interest of accuracy, it sounds like a cricket chirping constantly. And some people who haven't jumped and gotten the pump replaced are reporting that the crickets are going away.
I had to look for an example of hyperbole, to make sure I'm not unique but I managed to find one. Might even be manic hyperbole?

I'm just trying to get the point across that it pisses a lot of people off and I can understand why.

The big deal is I don't enjoy my 2 month old car sounding like a 20 yr old clunker with a slipping belt. Its very audible from the cabin with windows down. Just last week on the way to work I pulled up to the AF Base gate, which has walls around it that amplify the chirping, the airman checking badges paused, looked at my car, then leaned down and asked me, "whats wrong with your car...why is it squeaking like that"?

I don't like being asked whats wrong with my brand new car, that's the big deal

I can't speak for others, but mine is not that bad. It actually seems to come and go too. Some days (like this morning) there were zero crickets. There are enough people complaining about it that I think we will eventually see a fix. But until there is a confirmed fix (which there is not) I will hold off on the repair.

As long as you stay out of WOT, it should be fine. Dynamic CR is only a fraction of static CR at part-throttle.

Got the chirping here. Started at 5 miles and hasn't stopped. I traced the noise to the driver side , near the fuel pressure regulator. Then I found this thread. And that's where the story ends.

I don't think its related to fuel quality, as it still sounds like crap even with CAM2 in the tank. Doesn't bother me, just sounds like an old belt. At first I thought it may be a bad air pump or something related to cold start emmisions because it only starts after the car settles down into 600rpm idle. Weirdness.

I am not convinced it is completely related to fuel quality either. I literally have crickets one day, and gone the next.. On the same tank of fuel.. I do wonder if it is temperature related, I have not noticed them in the morning where it has been relatively cool here. In the late afternoon I have noticed them..

That's exactly what I hated about it. I didn't really mind the noise enough to get the pump replaced. But it gets tiring when people keep mentioning/asking about the noise. That's the main reason I got it replaced. 2800 miles in 2 1/2 month since it was replaced. No chirp still.

Even on the same day. I get it after the car is warm (never when it's cold), and only below about 1200RPM and zero-throttle. But it'll do it sitting at one stoplight, then not at all for the next three lights.

Just to clarify - why are people getting the pumps replaced? Looking at this diagram of the system there is no secondary pump under the engine bay for the DI system. Everything is contained in the gas tank even the fuel pressure regulator (weird). The only thing in the engine bay is the fuel system pulsation damper.

I can't imagine how a pump would cause noise in the engine bay, when it is behind you.. in a gas tank?
