interesting thought, both STI and TRD have been working on these big brake kits, suspension upgrades, lighter drive shafts, et cetera. It occured to me that they're building up to a Power upgrade in the future. I mean they did say that there's room for 50hp easily. so it stands to reason, we're getting these brake and suspension upgrades now so that when they do give power adders the car isn't all over the place or the feel of it isn't ruined.
I mean, back when this car first came out how many threads where there that began with "so i turned the traction control off..." so the order of action appears to be. Handling parts that are adjustable then give engine upgrades. /2 cents

I have to agree with chanomatik that highway driving a WRX/STI makes one a bit lazy and BRZ requires more finesse and attention. While having the power to pass at will is nice it is a luxury, it is not a necessity. I also understand that, at altitude, a turbo charger helps. Some might say that having the power would get them out of some bad situations. While that might be true, I think most of those situations are self made and might have been avoided with better situational awareness.
I do not agree with chanomatik on the "more unique" thing. There is no "more unique"! |

No amount of "situational awareness" is going to get you past that double tractor trailer on a 2 lane highway when next to nothing happens at WOT.

^I hear you there. On Friday I was driving down a 2 lane highway cruising at 65mph. I came up on a full size Chevy diesel dualie going 60mph. I didn't come anywhere close to tailgating him, as I didn't want any pebbles being thrown up on my car from his tires. After a few minutes the opportunity came up for me to pass him on a straightaway (with the dotted line indicating a passing zone). I dropped it into 3rd, signaled my passing intentions, and floored it. Well guess what this asshole did? He decided to floor it too b/c he didn't want me passing him. I had to go up to 85mph to pass him (I think he was going 80 around that point) and since he delayed my passing there was now a car coming in the opposite direction. After getting in front of him He proceeded to tailgate me at 80, nothing but grill/headlights in my rearview mirror. Not one to be intimidated, I hit the brakes (not very hard, but firmly) to slow down to 68-69 mph. I then shook my fist in the air to him, telling him to go f*ck himself. After a minute or so he faded back to his usual speed of 60 mph (I guess). Never saw him again. Obviously there are assholes on the road like this that we encounter all the time. However, it would have been great to have easily blown him away in the pass (with a more powerful car) and never had to deal with any of this BS.

What angers me about the people that say there's no need for a more powerful model is that they seem to think they know better than us that want FI and for some reason want to deny us the freedom to chose.

It's funny that people actually don't even want an option for more power from the factory. /shrug.

For me it's a safety issue. If I need to pass someone, I want it to be over with quickly. On my test drive (I do this with any vehicle), I like to be going 50-60 on a highway and punch it. If it doesn't accelerate enough to push me back in my seat a little, it's too under powered for my tastes. |

am i the only one that doesn't have trouble passing people?
i think the car is a joy as is. doing a few bolts ons really wakes it up. add a header and i'll be happy. there is NOTHING better than pulling away from someone on twisties or lapping someone at HPDE only to ahve them ask wahts under the hood...and you say STOCK that has a special place in my heart this car was made to handle, and handle it does. also as stated above 200 BHP out of a 2.0l is pretty impressive, for the mto get to 250 out of the same motor it would require a bit more engineering and then i highly doubt it would still cost as much as it does now. |
