This tells a different story... the dip is still there... but smaller

You're a long way from 240 crank there. What's happening is acoustic scavenging is shifting up the rpm range.

The JDL dyno shows this.

It gains in the middle but loses down low. We need to carry this further. Shift the whole lower peak into and beyond the dip. We need the torque gains at higher rpm, even if they are not huge, to make the power. It is a combined effect of flow and acoustics.

So far no parts maker/tuner combination team is taking a more scientific approach and focusing on acoustics of the combined system (intake as well as exhaust runner length, termination boxes, megaphones). They just make a part and if it fits and make power they sell it. No deep understanding on what's going on. They are too focused on flow, but that is only part of what's happening.

Edit: Just realized that's only a tune. Could be nerfing the low and high to make it look flatter. The acoustic stuff will come into play as you go for headers and intake manifold getting cliser to the S2000 number.

I was talking about removing the torque dip alone, not do both...

besides, you can do close to 200 WHP with some really good flowing exhaust, intake and tune... and get rid of the torque dip...

my random thought for the morning:

why is it that whenever Kirk gets in a fight his shirt rips?

edit: yay my dyno sheet helps! headers + tune helped a lot with getting rid of the dip

So are talking about killing the torque dip, or chasing S2000 numbers? Both may be possible, I guess. 200 whp on a Dyno Dynamics is pretty spectacular, if there's no fooling going on.

The compression ratio, combination Port/DI, and wide cam phasing range give the FA20 some advantages over the FC20. And Toyota has shown what they can do with an 86x86 NA 4 banger without those advantages when they did the BEAMS.

I'm still waiting to see a whole system approach to parts development.

And cams.

I also showed 174whp stock on a mustang dyno. I believe that I've got a freak motor, or these dynos could just show high.

edit: I HAD made an appointment to go this morning to dyno again on the mustang dyno, but shit came up (read: I didn't want to get out of bed) so I couldn't make it.

Biggest problem with dyno numbers. You can only sorta trust one dyno. And that's your dyno. (As in the specific dyno you do all your runs and tuning on.)

And the track. (But I'm not familiar with 1/8th mile figures.)

Btw, you getting the belt issue sorted?

mostly. My friend is going to see the cost of a belt tensioner with his employee discount (works for lexus)

I was going to use the mustang dyno to show the difference. I was hoping that since I showed ~100 whp change on the dyno dynamics, I would also show ~100 whp change on the mustang.

All this tuning talk means it's time for me to complain about not having shop space. Again. For the many-th time.

Maybe this winter. But welding in a woodworking shop is not one of the smartest things you can do...
