So far I only get that one pop on the first drive of the day when I turn the wheel and it's dead silent the rest of the day. I'll keep it like this until they get worse. . hopefully not, but if/when they do I'm hoping a fix will be available. Otherwise, I think I'll just throw some Group N mounts on and call it a day.

So are people actually running the conical washers on the factory style strut? With the washer welded on the spring cap, I would think it should be unnecessary. I am not above adding a conical washer to my setup if it will stop the popping/clunking. The reasoning behind needing the conical washer for the high camber/caster does make some sense.

I have the RCE Tarmac 2 Clubsports + conical washer + Stock Mounts ... Which is basically the KW V3s with RCE springs ... and have had zero problems with clunking/spring binding since putting in the conical washers ... I was about to pull the trigger on the Whiteline COM C's but now I think I'm just going elsewhere for replacement of the caster/camber plate/stock top ....

Well I finally spoke with Jan at Whiteline today. He claims that even the newer style koyo bearing com-c top hats have some similar issues to the original black bearings. They claim the newer version of the top hats should have no issues. I am currently waiting on a warranty replacement now. I guess I should be happy that they at least send the new top hats before I have to remove the old ones.

New version meaning newer than just the revision with the koyos? I've had two copies with the koyos, both had the same problems - waiting on a 3rd set, wondering if there are physical changes that I can look for in this new revision.

I've been running the latest COMCs on RCEs with the Subie conical washers for 6+ weeks. No issues so far.

I don't know if there is an actual physical revision. Perhaps it is just a change in the hardness of the rubber or they had a batch of bearings with issues. Whiteline did say that they had made changes though.

I am curious to try the conical washer on mine. I believe I will attempt that during the fresh install. Did you try them without the conical washers? Do you still use the factory spring cap?

The first set of COMCs I had I ran without the washers and they were noisy. I read up and obtained the washers which I used with the replacement set of COMCs. Still using the factory spring cap. You'll definitely need a spring compressor to run the washers as the additional stack height made it impossible for me to get the nut back on by hand.

Ah that's less fun. The spring compressors for rent around here are pretty terrible. How thick are the conical washers?

Probably 2mm. The irony is that I have emails from Jan months ago asking if a conical washer should be used on the new Koyo bearing'd Com-C's and he insisted that they weren't necessary.

The washers will increase the ride height in the front by that amount if you don't have adjustable coilovers.

You should only be using the washer if you are NOT using the OEM upper spring perch, which you mean you're more than likely on a threaded body coilover.
