Now you know how Alaskans feel. 91 is minimum and we can only get 90.

Fortunately every tuner I've talked to has assured me that the computer adjusts for crappy gas. You just get less performance, but Premium is still Premium, so the engine won't die because of it.

I did.

2008 STI with intake, downpipe, catback, protune, BC BR coilovers and Whiteline front/rear sway bars.

A CV boot tore on my front left axle, slinging grease everywhere. Took it in to Subaru after freaking out that I had to pay $800 for a new axle + labor and was basically told, "You're still under the 60k powertrain warranty. We got this."

It all comes down to the dealership and how well/poorly they communicate with SOA.

The boot's tear isn't caused by the engine mods though...

This is kinda like the axles falling out on WRXs... lol

You mean like whether or not they are willing to lie to SOA about the mods on the car?

How many dealers did you try? Or are you just going by one others experiences with his? I would find another dealer that understands the problem.
I would keep looking for a another dealer, compare it to another FRS there with the service manager.. If the problem is so obvious.. They will have to acknowledge it..
Judging by your posts, you've decided to just live with it and complain instead.

Toni @FA20Club has been awesome to deal with for me. Much much better than a different tuner on this forum ... anyways.

I asked him about my tune when this came up and he said it already had the updated fix and wouldn't be a problem. I've done logs and never seen any knock during WOT shifts or anything that was described in most of the DI problem threads.

Any tune that has the proper timing retard in the transient timing table.

It's easy enough to DIY.

If Toyota/Subaru hasn't released an official update, and the CSG engine gets replaced, will you be tuning the engine to avoid future detonation? Assuming the knowledge the community has gained is the same as it is now.

We've already begun recommending that EVERYONE get a tune that corrects this issue. Many of our clients are now running EcuTEK/BRZedit.

@infinite012 A CV boot isn't related to engine mods though. It could be argued that they had a basis to reject the warranty claim due to suspension mods, but even then I'd take that to the top since it should be covered (and was covered in your case). Pop an engine with an aftermarket exhaust and tell me they'll cover it...

Told ya.
What? Please explain how an exhaust system is going to cause engine failure? Nobody should fear warranty issues from a catback exhaust.. Except for the exhaust itself.
