@bestwheelbase the US BRZ's head unit looks to be optional in the Impreza so there's a chance that other 2012/2013 Impreza head units will work. Scroll down a bit on this page to see the radio options: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/imprez...13photos2.html

I also asked before in this post but didn't get a reply. The quest continues.

What, for when the dealership bends them over with random fees and a lack of test drives?

I must be the only one who actually likes the radio.

The stereo sounds great after installing an 8" sub and adjusting the equalizer settings according to this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/12/13/ta4y8y8e.jpg

As far as using the touch screen, I have no problem pushing the buttons while I'm driving. I rest my wrist on the stick shift and my finger reaches the screen just fine and is stable.

I know there are way better options out there, but I don't think the Fujitsu is as horrible as most make it out to be.

I say Subaru just needs to do two things to improve the audio/sat nav in the BRZ…

Make an OEM Audio Plus Reference 500 (designed for the BRZ) system standard, and for a head unit, an Apple iPad mini…!

The iPad mini would be (easily) removable, yet totally secure while one was experiencing a bit of 'spirited driving'…

An integrated iPad mini could also be used for digital gauges…

…and OpenTablet…!?! Could that be somehow made to function thru an iPad mini?

You might be the only one. The stock sound is horrible at any EQ setting.

The real reason I am responding is to let you know you shouldn't rest any weight on your stick shift. This added weight causes wear on the syncros and eventually that gear will be useless.

So where would that leave folks who are using weighted shift knobs…?!?

Example - Anarchy Motive Mammoth XS @ 671g (1.47lbs)

I'm not sure. I'm also not sure how much weight causes the issue but I've heard of hands resting on the stick causing long term wear so a hand is heavy enough.

The difference is in how the weight is placed on the stick.

Weight that is straight vertically down won't affect anything at all -- hence why shift knobs of whatever form are fine.

However, when you rest your hand on it, the weight is never completely vertical. You are very slightly pulling the stick one way or another (usually back and left) and potentially engaging a synchro would could over time wear it out.
