That's because a 350z doesn't handle all that well to begin with.

Fact check shows Toyota marketed the X-Runner against the 350Z as the "skidpad benchmark" which the X-Runner exceeds at 0.90g while the 350Z is at 0.88g. Funny thing is the Celica GT-S skidpad is also 0.88g. And X-Runner/Celica similarities don't stop there (more on that later). So 350Z and Celica GT-S can be used interchangeablely as the "skidpad benchmark." But the keyword is *marketing* ...makes more sense to market against a competitor's current [at the time] flagship performance RWD sports car rather than against your own discontinued FWD sporty car. The X-Runner goes from 0-60 in 6-7 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14-15 seconds, and stops from 60-0 in just less than 120ft. The 350Z does NOT perform the same in all those metrics but the Celica does...
I have a distinct memory from 2006 of sitting at my college library reading Car and Driver which compared the Celica GT-S and X-Runner. Stuck in my mind because I had a Celica GT-S at the time. I could only find this quote from the web: "With the demise of the Celica, the X-Runner is the sportiest vehicle in Toyota's line-up." So what's more fair: Comparing performance of the FR-S to the 350Z or Celica GT-S? If Celica, then that would be like comparing [performance] to the X-Runner.

Everyone: The X-Runner goes from 0-60 in 6-7 seconds, 1/4 mile in 14-15 seconds, and stops from 60-0 in just less than 120ft. So does the FR-S. X-Runner has a better 0.90g skidpad comared to the FR-S' 0.88g.
@Belial86's thread is valid from a performance aspect; the comparison is pretty dead even.

Actually...before buying my car, one of my options was trading my truck for an X-runner. Instead, I kept the truck and bought the car.
