This thread is about the extra fees on top of the "Destination" charge. If I build a car on scion.com, it includes the destination charges in the MSRP. Still the dealers here have the car listed above the MSRP, then they add the "Dealer" fee. I refuse to pay 29k OTD for a base FRS with no options.

Delivery, Processing, and Handling fee is included in the configured price on scion.com.

Good to know. I thought about using TrueCar, but I'll pass for now. I may start looking out of state for one at a decent price. I work for an airline, so I can always fly there and drive it back.

Ah okay. I work at a Dodge Dealership and we lose the most money on True Car deals. An average of ~$1000 per deal, actually, even past holdback and dealer adds. I guess we must be doing it wrong. TrueCar is a better deal than my own employee pricing, in fact.

I would just shop around at other dealerships. Mine only added extra parts to mark up the price on top of the scion pure price. Other dealerships in the area wanted to add up to 3k in extra crap that I didn't ask for paint protection ect..
Best thing to do is shop around it's your money don't get screwed in fee's that don't exist. Base model shouldn't run more then 25255 with the destination fee (which they have to charge whether it already at the dealership or not). Good luck in your search.

I had originally negotiated the price of a Raven FR-S (MT w/ no options) down to $25,677.45 OTD (tax, title, fees, everything).

My actual OTD price ended up being $26,831.19 (difference of $1153.74). I didn't have a trade in and I ended up getting a model with some options (that they didn't charge me for) because they said they didn't have one in stock without options so they'd just give me this model w/ the options for free.

The options that were included for free:

LED Daytime Running Lights
Mudguards
Legal Window Tint

Toyoguard Elite which includes:
1 Synthetic oil change w/ filter
2 Tire rotations
Roadside assistance (5 years / 60k miles)
Rental Car Assistance (covers 1 day per repair, up to 5 rentals per 5yrs / 60k miles)
Person Assistant (720 minutes / 5 years)
Exterior Paint Sealant
Interior Protection (covers stains caused by food, water and beverages)
Vehicle VIN etch
-----------------------------

In addition I added Lojack w/ Early Warning for $995+tax and also Unlimited Ding coverage (unlimited claims, no deductible, they come to you to fix the dings as long as they're smaller than a credit card size) for 1 year for $199+tax (which they discounted). That's why the cost was about $1153.74 higher than my original OTD price.

I was going to finance through my credit union for 3.35% @ 60 months but went with the dealer to make it easier (my bank is out of town).
The dealer gave me a base rate of 2.9% and the resulting APR was 3.22% which was lower than what my credit union offered.

This was my second FR-S purchase and I did great considering I did get the OTD price I wanted only thing was that I decided to add those two things above. I was gonna pay for the LoJack anyway. The Early Warning is great because that means that I'll be alerted via e-mail phone and text within 5 minutes of my car being stolen. I've been considering dropping the Lojack and Ding coverage but it's definitely stuff I like having so I'm gonna keep it.

Sorry for the long post. Long story short, they're gonna fit the dealer fee in there regardless of what you do. What they typically do is lower the cost of the car but then still charge you the dealer fee. They have lots of other tricks they use too. My advice would be to just focus on what you're comfortable paying out the door and make sure that you pit dealers against each other (by having them beat each other's prices by e-mailing them as I described in my previous post). I did 0 haggling at the dealership, I had the price I wanted when I walked into the dealership.

Edit: I forgot to mention that it also came with a Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warranty at no additional charge. It also came with the 2 yr maintenance (toyotacare / scion service boost) at no charge

@Frstorm ,

My dealer included that as well, I just forgot to list it in my last post. The toyoguard is in addition to that

Well I got them down to 28k OTD. The $699 dealer fee is still there. Does anyone know of any dealers in Florida that would be worth negotiating with? The local dealer here seems willing to price match if find a better deal.

Maybe my dealer was just more of a straight shooter, but the fees were minimal, and the price ended up being pretty close to MSRP. Hell, they even gave me a better APR than my credit would have given me.
