That's not the point... you can make 400RWHP on a S15 transmission too, and that one's the highest rated AY6 transmission.

The issue (from a manufacturing perspective) is how Aisin-Warner warranties a transmission for new car owners.

What we do in the aftermarket does not determine what the rated capacities of a transmission are.

Unless Toyota/Subaru used a different transmission, the article is still valid for purposes of turbo'd FA20 discussion.

the one car ill be waiting for but only if it follows the pervious generations. since bmw uses L6 engines a lot i think it will. However I think itll be quite expensive.

Waste of a platform if they dont build other sports cars off the FRS/BRZ.

Supra, Lexus LF-CC/LSF, BRZ STi and whatever Toyota/BMW hybrid child.

Your not talking to the right people then, no this tranny will not last very long at high torque numbers unless you granny shift most of the time...one individual I know (high HP early adopter) has already gone to a Tremec on his DD , he has broke two Aisin's, Robert Stout's racing FRS early on went to a bespoke Hewland . Sure OEM will last for awhile, but don't expect reliability . At this price point don't expect things to be "over built" in fact just the opposite. There is a safe point probably for this engine and drivetrain where your not over taxing the design limits and should expect some decent reliability without a ridiculous amount of supporting mods, IMHO that's about 50 to 75hp over stock. But it won't be in the double the torque and horsepower area,...

Has Toyota and BMW ever collaborated to make a production car before?

If they are planning a new Supra, a turbo charged FRS/GT86 would undermine that car's sales.

It's the same with Subaru. They don't want to undermine their WRX sales by making the BRZ turbo.

I think we may one day see a limited run of FA20 Turbo BRZ's but I'm not expecting it anytime soon or in large volumes.

No, but Toyota has with Subaru.

BMW engines are everywhere, along with other bits. It'll be fine.

Even seen BMW engines with American trannies...

Convertible, Turbocharged FR-S Cancelled?

http://www.leftlanenews.com/topless-...-canceled.html

A new report finds that Toyota has canceled the long-rumored convertible and turbocharged variants of the rear-wheel drive Scion FR-S coupe. The Japanese automaker never made an official announcement about the turbocharged model, but the convertible was previewed by the FT-86 Open concept that bowed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year.

Although the close-to-production concept was well-received by the press and by show-goers, trade journal Automotive News reports that chopping the top off of the FR-S requires a big investment that is hard to justify because the convertible will undoubtedly be a low-volume model. Notably, Toyota promised the conversion will be weight-neutral, meaning that it is faced with the Herculean task of strengthening the coupe's body and designing a full soft top mechanism without adding a pound to the FR-S' weight.

Although the turbocharged model is a no-go, Toyota is still mulling the launch of a FR-S powered by a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain that will provide a noticeable bump in power. If given the green light for production, the car is still at least two or three years away as it will arrive with the FR-S' mid-cycle facelift.

Subaru has not indicated whether it will follow Toyota's lead and keep the BRZ a naturally-aspirated coupe. A convertible variant of the BRZ is unlikely, but Subaru could easily introduce a range-topping model with forced induction because select Forester models use a turbocharged version of the coupe's 2.0-liter flat-four engine.

I am fine with this. Convertible = less stiff. Unless it's a Lotus.
