Under the grounds that the vehicle is not operating as purchased I have opened a case with Toyota USA and will request a buyback or trade assist into a new vehicle if they can guarantee me the part is no longer a problem in the new vehicle.
Let us know how that plays out...

My chirp sound went away about 1000 miles ago. She is quiet now since I have been rolling on shell summer 93 octane. Go figure!

Funny.

Just what are they going to do if a pump to fix the problem does not exist? Go to the dealer, tell them you have the chirp, make sure they put it in your vehicle record. Mine chirps with E-10. BFD, when they fix the problem I'll get the fix. Meantime, e-free gas. Some of you should just go outside and light your car on fire, you'd be happier.

Maybe noise = friction = wear = clearance.
Which is great as long as it doesn't cause problems?

This would not make me happy at all. I would basically be burning $28K. I prefer to have the vehicle bought back and my money returned.

I have worked for an auto manufacturer for 6 years in the USA, and this is not uncommon. This is actually a nightmare for dealers to deal with. When there is a known issue with no solution from the manufacturer, it causes a tremendous spike in Customer Retention expense (picking up lease payments, car payments), Trade Assistance (trading the customer into a different car with no out of pocket expense to the customer) and buybacks.

I respectfully understand that not everyone would be annoyed by the fuel pump issue, and that is there own choice.

To those who claim the chirping is "normal" because eventually it happens to all FT86's...

I guess it was normal for Ferrari 458's to catch on fire, because eventually it would have happened to all of them. Thankfully Ferrari issued a full recall.

Yes, I know the HPFP isn't going to engulf my car in flame, fingers crossed. But "normal" operation is how I drove it off the dealership lot 800 miles ago, not how it is now. The resale value of my car has been impacted, and standing next to it while idling is annoying.

You are oversimplifying. The function of the HPFP is normal, with or without the noise.

I would not despair that your 800 mile car is now worthless because of a noise. I think that this problem will eventually be viewed as a small issue. I would start despairing over your injector seals, however, because 1) if they crap out on you, you blow the engine and 2) unless the fix is a software update, replacing the seals and/or injectors is no small affair.

This stinks. I know. Sorry about that.

So I just picked up a used BRZ with 10k miles and noticed I had a chirp after a 35-40 min drive.. I read that some of you said that a new part is being developed.. Should I even bother being it in, just to point put the problem at least?

I'll reserve my comments on the chirp later, but anyone have a mechanical failure on the HPFP?

I don't think anyone has said that it has actually caused a problem other than being annoying.

Personally, I would prefer to have it in my car's service records so if something *does* happen that can be blamed on the fuel pump, they already know about it and can't blame it on something I did. Hence why I did so at the first service.

Yep that's why I took mine in ONCE. I'm not pissing my time away getting multiple replacements. They have it on record and that's good enough for me. When there is a fix I will be first in line.

That is what my dealer's service told me too.
I just filled ethanol free gas second time and the cricket is gone for now, but still some different kind of noise is there maybe I'm too sensitive now.
It is strange that it didn't go away when I filled up with ethanol free first time tho~

You want the dealer touching your car the least number of times possible. I'm just waiting for the official announcement from Toyota.
