Wow i definitely thought they were giving away free cars the first time i read it. This thread made me reread it and its bs. I bet they only offer purchase of the new car like 2-3 weeks before sales start

Hm, interesting. I wonder how long they would give you to decide. Seems like there most likely won't be BRZs to drive at the time these are delivered. I guess if you KNEW you absolutely weren't going to want a BRZ, and are rich enough that you can pay cash or just arrange financing on the spot like that without getting screwed, then it might make sense. But that's a lot of ifs. It just seems to me like there are a lot of unkowns about the car still and very little, if any, benefit to doing this.

Uhmm I'll sign up. It's really not my concern if others can't afford the car (not saying that's actually the case but the undertone is there). Sorry.

I have a feeling the price will come out just before the signup date.

^Hope that's the case. But that'd be a stupid move on Scion's part considering the data they can exploit out of this.

I think this was a huge mistake on Scion's part it really does seem like a cash-grab in disguise

I think I'm going to jump the scion ship and head over to the BRZ side if the price is right

Good effort but I'm sure the spots will fill up very fast. Market is huge. All you need is 86 sign ups.

Likely, but I guarantee they'll know the price before they pay the deposit.

I think you're making too big a deal about this. We know the approximate price range of the FR-S, we know it won't be under $21k and it won't be over $25k; if you're not prepared to pay that price range, purchasing this car, regardless of the announced price, is probably not a wise move.

I have a $42k budget for my next car, and I'm signing up for the First 86. I've dealt with Scion on a corporate and ownership level for 6 years and found that when you take a leap of faith, you're well rewarded.

It's not about being able to afford it for me, it's about making the best decision with my money. What this program is doing is making you agree to buy an FRS without even considering or cross shopping a BRZ. You completely neglect an option that might end up getting you more for your money, especially with Subaru's VIP program. At least wait and see. Doesn't seem like a smart move to me, it seems like it is just for people who have to be the first person to have everything.

He's saying it's not about getting the 86 sign ups, but about how many people sign up for it, that will tell you how many people are really interested in buying the car as soon as it comes out. The problem is every 16 year old kid who comes across this site is going to sign up their whole family and their dog, so it's not really an accurate gauge. I bet they will go through hundreds of people before they find 86 people willing to actually put down the deposit.

It is a marketing exercise and nothing to get worked up about... those folks have to try and justify their paycheques somehow ;-)

Scion doesn't have to do a single thing, except setup up some minor additional administration and web support, this isn't going to affect their production of a mass produced car one bit... including it's price.

Ok I take back what I said. Nobody will know til January 12, 8:06 PM at the earliest. Exactly 8 hours and 6 minutes after sign-ups start (if a computer is standing by to instantly auto-calculate, auto-adjust, and auto-publish the price).

Like I said in the 1st post, if you're one of those seriously ready to buy since "yesterday," do it. That will make the list more accurate and not skewed.
