I thought you could still get the Z1's?

Either way, I would recommend the new ZII instead! haha.

Not for good engineering reasons. They are cheaper for production. That's a financial reason, not an engineering reason.

And packaging, they take up a lot less space.

You know... when I first bought the FRS and had the hood open it was glaringly obvious why they chose Macs up front (excluding the financial reason).. the boxer engine takes up a wide area in the engine bay essentially making Macs up front a necessity.

Kind of makes me curious... If Toyota did this exact car but without a boxer engine, would they still have opted for Macs up front?

this is what i was thinking too. its was more an issue of the archaic transaxles they had to deal with in the sixties and how to fit suspension around them.

that was my first though when i saw a picture of the engine bay. i get why they did it and am glad it worked out. its just that being a fan of double wishbone suspensions and not so much of boxer motors i wish it wasnt the way things turned out. that being said, you cant help but admire the execution of the car at least in stock form.

Yup, I went with the BRZ

I was VERY close to buying the Focus ST though... Too close XD I NEVER should have drove it, its just that good of car! I do recommend anyone in the new car market test drives one just because its so damn good.

Its still no BRZ though, the interior layout was what eventually made my decision for me :P

Remember Toyota didn't put double wishbone on the MR-S, I'm afraid mainstream OE double wishbone has seen its day. I'll be surprised if the new Miata retains it.

double wishbone is not going anywhere and i would be shocked if the miata ever changed the recipie that kept the thing a success for two decades. the mr2 came with mac struts because of packaging issues (and im sure cost didnt help).

I tend to agree with you, but you cannot rule anything out since the next Miata is a joint venture with Alfa Romeo. I do truly hope the artist rendering I have seen of the Miata are not anything close to the final product (the Alfa Romeo by comparison, looks much better).

Holy crap. That thing is hideous.

The earlier renders I saw last year were gorgeous. That thing there looks like what a modern Crossfire would look like with a Mazda grill on it.

There is no way in hell Mazda is going to put out ugly like that - they have been on a design roll lately with the CX5, the 6, and now the 3 (at least the sedan version).
