7" Pioneer AVH-X5500

Considering this unit.. for three reasons:

1) Its in my price budget.
2) Its 7"
3) Always been a Pioneer girl.

Just wanted to know if anyone has it and if so could you post some pictures?

Any thoughts about this unit?

Also, what installation kit would I have to buy? Its a double din unit.

If you scroll down the first page, GreenGuy101 posted his with the JPM Alcantara wrapped dash. It looks nice in person too.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ght=coachworks

For the dash kit you can either order the Metra or beatsonic kit. Beatsonic has issues with the screws not being long enough though.

I have had no problems with my Pioneer unit so far and I went with the X3500 and he has had zero issues with the X5500.

Cell phone refuses to connect with my computer right now so I'm charging my canon, I'll get you a pic yet...
Ill give you a more detailed review having owned it for about 2 months.
Most common complaint with people is screen washes out in direct sunlight - which is true but you wont get direct sunlight except in the early morning or late evening (at least thats what I find with tinted windows)
The menus are easy to navigate and it will search through a 8GB usb drive with relative ease. Its not perfectly fluid but isnt stupidly slow if you know what I mean. Most video formats play without a hitch, you will need to either buy or make a relay though if you want to bypass the Pioneer safety features. The "AppRadio" cable is an extra purchase (bought mine on amazon for $10). With there only being 1 USB port you have to swap between Appradio and USB drives. Usb splitters dont work.

Anything else you want to know just ask.

The Metra dash kit needs a little trimming. You can easily do it with small cutting pliers. Cut off plastic in red.

You are the best! Thanx a bunch for all this info.

I actually ordered it last night through Amazon too

As far as the glare... I'm tinted about 10% all around, including front windshield tint.. Do you think i'll still have that glare?

Also, can I connect & charge my Droid to it?

I also wanted to run an USB/iPod connector from the back of the unit into my glove box so I can just have my iPod connect there always. Thats kind of what I did to my tC except he ran the wire into my middle console box.

It's very easy to run a cable into the glove box. Once you remote the radio, there's plenty of room to fish the wire through.

The glare is only bad when the sun is hitting it directly. Not a big deal.

You will be fine. Mine is 20% all around and really not an issue. If the droid has a usb charger then yes of course!

You can only have 1 usb device with this though so you can either run the USB extention cable into your glove box (the cable is supplied) or you can use the USB adapter I posted to retain the factory spot. But you cant do both unfortunately.

Beatsonic is a better fit but on a budget the metra does just fine.

If you happen to have a Samsung GS3 I suggest the x8500, I have it and I can mirror my phone onto the Headunit and with the app AR Liberator I have full control of my phone thru my HU...just a suggestion

Unit is amazing. I have no problems. I connect my droid via bluetooth and enjoy pandora on it as well as make calls from the unit. I connected my itouch to the unit and ran the wire into my glove box.
