SURFAB headers in development
SURFAB are about to begin development and testing of various header designs for our cars.
They're based in Christchurch (New Zealand) which will put them out of reach of the majority of the market; but I thought I'd post of results/pics/progress anyway as I'm sure people will be interested. Without doing the full-on sales blurb, SURFAB generally only do higher-end custom work. Race car prep, full conversions, manifolds, roll cages, custom CF parts. They've done most of the work on my ae86 race car. Specs of the header design will be.. 4 - 1 EL design Catless Will bolt to stock overpipe Slip joins SURFAB have a close working relationship with Kelford and Link/NZEFI (all of whom are also based in Christchurch) Kelford will be involved with the initial calculations and designs. Link/NZEFI will be involved with the tuning. Although these companies are based in New Zealand, I'm sure you've heard of Kelford and Link/NZEFI Headers will also be thoroughly tested on the street and race track. Which means I really need to order my AP Racing brake kit. I don't have any flash pictures to show you, however I do have some progress shots of the turbo manifold they made for my ae86. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's a picture of my exhaust manifold, coated and installed. ![]() Great thing about SURFAB, is they like to test everything. Above you can see my ITB's and the plenum to suit. They weren't happy with how the ITB's performed on the dyno, so the intake manifold was adapted to suit a single VH41 throttle body, which they machined and modifed to suit this application. ![]() ![]() ![]() Ignore the ugly radiator and hoses! My PWR radiator was damaged in the post, so this one was quickly adapted and thrown in temporarily. And, if you're not familar with slip joins (I wasn't) here's a picture of some TODA Racing headers. ![]() Updates to follow. ![]() |

And yes, my car is becoming the test-bed whore for Christchurch based companies developing products. But that's about all I can say about that for now.

Why an EL? Doesn't UEL show more power?

Have you looked at the P&L, FA20Club and Nameless EL headers? I think you'll find that they are making more power than any of the UEL headers and not just smoothing out the torque dip but adding more torque. With a tune of course.

Looks like they do good work. Is this something they will take 8-12 months of development on or will it possibly be on the market before EOY?

I have yet to see a dyno chart that proves this.

Read again. The borla has an ARK exhaust installed as well as aftermarket over pipe and front pipe.
