all this video did was show the absolutely disgusting amount of grip the car had based on skid pad, stopping distance and more importantly figure 8 number and then describe how the car felt so much better than the previous generations but it gained 100 lbs so its disappointing. this forum has a horrible habit of judging means and not the end. that being said, i will probably never own a vette because each iteration makes the preious look like a joke.

It's not so much about what the C7 is or isn't, as it is the failure to deliver. There was a lot of discussion before the C7 was released about how it was supposed to be 100 lbs. lighter than the outgoing C6, but now we see it's actually 100 lbs. heavier, weighing in at 3444 lbs. That's disappointing no matter how you look at it.

A lot of manufacturers have promised that the next generation of cars will be lighter (Mazda with the Miata and next-gen RX-7, VW with the GTI, Chevy with the Vette, Ford with the Mustang, etc.) and that got a lot of enthusiasts excited, so it's always disappointing when they don't deliver on their claims.

As a whole, weight affects more than outright performance (although it matters there too, imagine the performance a C7 would offer 200 lbs lighter), it also affects the rate at which consumables are used, as well as fuel economy. Not to mention the way the car feels to drive.

That said, apart from the disappointing weight gain, the C7 Vette does look impressive from the reviews.

thats a valid point. i guess i just find it hard to be disappointed by 1.11g in any situation really. i think the only time i give weight that much importance is when thats the premise the car was built on. when i heard the elise was scheduled to gain 350 lbs, i died a little. when a 3300 lb car gains 100 lbs, i can live with it provided the car is better. imo the middle ground for car weights is in the 2800-3000 lb range and it seems to me that the fastest cars in the world are at or above that target so i kinda write it off as a necessary evil.

Yeah a lot of people out there find the idea of a 3400+ lbs. Corvette perfectly acceptable. I guess that's just the state of the automotive world right now. Hell, I was disappointed when I found out the Twins were going to be 2750 lbs. I was hoping for the 26XX range based on initial estimates. That didn't stop me from buying one, but I admit I was a bit let down (and still dream of ways to get it there).

Z51 package with bigger wheels/tires. Still only pulls 1.11 G...

It makes sense that it's overweight... It's American. 3400lbs is pretty much average nowadays amirite?!

wait, are we still talking about cars?

Want. I don't care if they gained some weight, it's all about the end result for me. 100% of the performance for 60% of the cost of its rivals? Sold.

I've never really cared about the base model vettes, the z06's, zr1's, Lingenfelter's, and hennessey's are what make me go ooohh and aahhh. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the new z06, if thats what its call, the LS7 is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Very nice car. But I would still get the GT-R even if doesn't drive like a proper sport car, mostly because it is a track car.

Leave it to these forums to worry about 100lbs on a sports car that has over 450/450.

i see the gtr as more of a touring car than a track car. But if i had to choose i would choose neither and go for the viper.

are you aware that the gtr is roughly twice the price of a vette?

I am aware that and the fact that the GT-R is worth the price. Capable of beating a bunch of supercars and definitely the vette.... I only mentioned the GT-R in my post because the OP brought it up....
