If you are talking about imitations that copy even the name, the advantage of a legit branded wheel is that any reputable brand will be responsible to any potential problems its wheel may have...meaning they will try to use good quality materials or contract quality manufacturing plants to build the wheel to ensure safety for its customers. Fake wheels on the other hand in the pursuit of cost often contract manufacturing plants that may be unethical and use recycled aluminum, which often results in the product failing. Just think, would anyone trust a product that was built with the intent to deceive? What other short cuts would they have taken in pursuit of low cost? So perhaps it may not be the weight, but more so the peace of mind you get....

IMO if your daily driving your car I just find it absurd to buy 3.5k wheels unless you make an equally absurd amount of money or you just dont ever plan on replacing them if you mark them up. I mean even 1600 dollar wheels your still paying 400 bucks to replace a curbed/bent wheel. Last thing I wanna do is drop a grand everytime something happens to one of my wheels.

Have a set of Forgestar F14's on my car and it got vandalized while it was parked outside a restaurant. Already have to replace a wheel and while 400 still hurt I'm seriously thanking myself after struggling to keep from buying TE37's.

Everyone has their own opinions though, neither are wrong IMO. Buy what you can afford, if wheels are the most important part of your build then by all means drop some scrilla on them. They are important to me and I wanted quality wheels, but not 700+ a wheel quality.

If money wasn't an option, sure everybody would say go with the real deal, but not everybody wants to pay $1800+ for a set of real work wheels, or advans. You'll see threads like this on 99% of car forums out there, and it's always most of the time a tear between fake vs. real. In all honesty, if you can't afford those wheels, and you want the look, I don't see any problem with running fake wheels as long as you don't try to convince others that they are real.

Cliffs: If you can afford it, get real, if not, get cheap and hope they don't break. A friend of mine always refused to pay for the real deal, bought some cheapo reps off ebay, and they constantly broke. Eventually he found out that over 3 years, he had to buy four more replacements, so his total investment with shipping was near $1500. At that point eventually gets closer and closer to the real price of some wheels (maybe used prices).
