For some reason I cannot elect to get a 30 day extention on the ticket. That's probably because it was dated incorrectly in March. I'd like to pay and get rid of the ticket now than have to worry about it later but if helps from my insurance raising, then I'd rather dispute it. Don't want to dispute it if nothing happens.

The officer can always endorse the correct date on the ticket.
At least here in California, you have to post the bail amount (the cost of the ticket) up front when you contest the ticket, and that is how it has been here for the last 20 years or so. If you win your case, they refund it. If you lose, they just keep it.

I'd imagine you can get the reckless dismissed anyways, since the officer goofed on the paperwork.

Your situation was a little different i dont think an officer would have given you a ticket for that even if he could.....he was DRIFTING (or trying to) not learning how to drive :happy0180:

it would behoove you to look into a "trial by declaration"

There should be court date for the ticket. You show up to court and probably plead guilty for the address change, but not guilty for the other ticket due to wrong filing. Should be the same everywhere. I got one and the cop put the wrong date and the judge had to drop the ticket.

How many of you have gone to court and have the officer not show up?

I've beat something around 17 tickets over the decades, and the vast majority of those were cases of the officer failing to show up to court causing the cases to be dismissed.

Of course, I've heard that this has changed somewhat over the years as police departments have changed their policies concerning officer court appearances because of all the revenue lost to the city this way.

Good to know. I've got my arraignment this Friday, so I'm going to see how it goes. I figure, either the cop does not show up and I get it dismissed..or I pay the ticket. Figure it's worth my time to try.

And I figured I might as well take my 4 hour class, drop the points, and pay the tickets off. Either that or take it to court. But don't wanna have to pay more for court fees and all.

looks like that was ignored so let me spell it out. if you request a trial by declaration, you take the court case out of the court. no longer does the officer have the advantage of having a rapport with the judge. the officer no longer has the incentive of being paid to sit there and give his case. instead of getting paid over time for sitting in court, the officer must write a paper on his/her own time. you both write a written statement. i would imagine the average person is able to make a more clear and concise statement about the events than your average officer especially considering the amount of events the officer encounters compared to your one. last but not least, if you lose the trail by declaration, you still have the right to physically go to court like you never lost the case. that wont likely be the case because i have never seen a case where the officer actually even bothered to write an essay.

edit: the first time i filed for a trial by declaration i spent no longer than 2 hours doing research and writing my statement. its far from rocket science.

Well I was going 74 on a 4 lane highway, late to work. Let's just say the speed limit was a bit below 50 MPH.

OP, sucks that you got ticketed; however, I must point out that if there are semi-trucks in a parking lot at 3am there is a good chance some hard working folks are probably trying to get some shuteye! I'm sure some awakened truckers were probably very upset to be woke up by your play!

Good luck with your ticket, and also in finding better places to play!

Lol you are absolutely right. I wasn't thinking of that when I was hooning around. But the officer did say that I woke up some of the drivers.

Still looking for other places but I don't really know any in Orlando

Hey I'm in the same boat... Haven't really found a place I felt safe hooning around my local area without going to a auto-x! All the parking lots have too many post, or are too near highly populated areas which would get me noticed.

And really, I think the only way I'd have thought about truckers is because I have a friend who drives!
