Want a quality product with peace of mind? Get the original.
Want to save money? Get the "knock-off"

It's all about balance... you find a balance between quality/peace of mind, and cost. And if a manufacturer really wanted to protect their design, they would find ways to protect their design.

That analogy isn't quite what is being presented.

I don't know of a single knock-off wheel that is superior or even comparable to the real thing.

Varrstoen vs Volk TE37's... approx 5lbs PER CORNER of unsprung weight. That is so huge that if you're looking for any performance advantage whatsoever, you wouldn't even consider Varrstoen (that's not to say they're not pretty, the concave is delicious)

I know the analogy being presented, and I am not going to drag this out to the original, larger debate.

Want to know what is even more important than wheel weights? TIRE WEIGHTS. It's on the outer-most edge of the rotating mass, and affects acceleration/deceleration more than you think.

Most people don't even consider this relevant, but it needs to be said.

Save 5lbs on the wheel, gain 5lbs on shitty tires. What's the tradeoff?

In any case, we can sit here talking about weight, shape, aerodynamics of wheel, safety, design, copy or not... my point still stands.

If you want peace of mind, don't go cheap.
If you want to go cheap, live with more uncertainty.

The performance part of it is just one of a series of complex variables.

Real wheels , and for the people that claim they are too expensive either can't save or don't know how to find bargains... I picked up my volk cv pros last year for a whole... $750 for forged 3pc wheels

Well the reality is I decided if I want the exact look I am going for I am probably gonna have the spend the money. Which is fine. I am getting wheel obsessed.
Yoshihara I think a wheel you have may work for my needs but I will be sending an email to find out for sure. If you do it would probably save me 2000.00.

These are what I consider as fake wheels. They copied everything even the stampings. On this side of the world, these fakes cost as low as 350 USD for a set of four for size 17 inch mags. They even make fake Rotas (last picture).

To set the record straight....That's what a fake or copy wheel is defined as... Anything indistinguishable or made to be virtually indistinguishable to the original article... Because if you try to label every wheel manufacturer as a copy because they share common design elements, ALL wheel manufacturers are copies of each other...

This is the exact same for me. I seriously considered several "legit" wheels and went back and forth on deciding for a few weeks. But none ticked as many checkboxes on my list of requirements as the XXR 527. So I'm running them for now. I don't classify XXRs as fake but I've seen other forum threads refer to them as exactly that lol.

I dont think they are fakes either. I dont think any of the wheels by brands unfairly branded as copies has stickers or caps of other wheel companies...

honestly, what is the advantage of a real rim over a "fake" rim? maybe a pound of weight which will probably will not show itself in either the subjective or objective data.
