I've got an 07 Daytona(R didn't come out until 11(?) i think). Done 15k miles since summer of 07, 1 track day at ORP, and lots and lots of quarter mile passes. The '12 and '13 bikes are two different generations. For '13 they went with a low side exhaust and did the first ground up new model since it came out in 06(they did a refresh in 09).

I've put a lot of money into mine(full exhaust, map, carbon, etc) and i love it, loved it stock, but the new bikes are supposed to be night and day better. I've ridden a couple of comparable 600's(07 ninja 636, 06 gsxr600, 09 cbr600) and the motors all felt very bland to me. The 675 motor is genuinely a thing of beauty to rev out. Tons more torque low down then the other 600's makes it a much better street bike too.

When the last generation ninja 600 came out and frankly took all the motoring honors from the class, i watched a review that compared the non R 675 to the ninja and the ending line was something like this: "you buy the ninja if youre buying with your head, you buy the Daytona if youre buying with your heart". Its really a hard bike not to love.

Now back to your question. I don't like how the headlights on the '13 are reflectors instead of projector(they look ugly to me), and i don't like that it doesn't have undertail exhaust anymore, although the thought is growing on me(scorched testicles and all). But despite that, a newer R will almost certainly be my next bike when i get rid of mine in a couple of years.

Ah good to know about the new ones. I currently have an 09 cbr600rr and its a blast but the reviews on the 675r are awesome. Plus people say the torque is no joke. And yes having the undertail exhaust looks SO much better in my opinon but again I thing the side exhaust can grow on you. It was either between the 675r or the 848 EVO and although Ducati's are nice, there is just something about the 675r that just makes it a better pick IMO (also watched a ton VS. review videos and have yet to see the Ducati "Triumph" over the 675R.

Thats kind of been the norm for the 848 though. Yes it makes more power and torque then the rest of the class, since its compared against 600-750cc bikes, but its never been fast enough to justify the cost...idk, just my opinion.

I was actually looking at getting a new bike before getting my FRS, i compared the 675R to a new 848 streetfighter(among others). The Duc was $2300/6months while the new 675R was only $1,000. For the same as the duc i could get a used S1000RR....and probably kill myself haha.

I think i'll probably stick with something in the cheater 600 class for a long while, they seem like a good mix of usable power and a relatively cheap entry fee.

Whatever you get you had better post some pics so i can be jealous

Well I will definitley but it won't be for awhile. I am almost done paying off the Honda, and once that's done I will be paying the car off. But when I do, I will definitley take pictures.
