I'd be interested in the X-Runner if I wanted a truck. I'd read in the past that Toyota benchmarked it against the 350Z in terms of handling. That's neat and all, sure, and it might handle well, but it's still a truck. It's about as similar to the FR-S as the standard Tacoma is to a Corolla.

Well... the X-Runner handles for what it is, and was comparable to the 350z when it launched.
It's not really comparable to the twins though, aside from the rwd aspect. Doesn't even have an LSD anymore. |

I traded in an 05 X-Runner for my FR-S. The handling is pretty close actually, it doesn't handle like a truck. I have lots of very curvy roads around me that I have had them both on.

car magazines say the frs is one of the best handling sports cars in the market and youre saying that a 8 year old truck handles about as good? that would mean it handles better than most other sports cars which I just don't believe is true.

When Toyota tuned the X-Runner, they used the Celica GT-S of the time as its performance benchmark. It was supposed to turn, brake, and accelerate like the Celica in terms of metrics. If the FR-S is like a RWD Celica, then I can see why this comparison would be made. But the point of the FR-S wasn't to strictly meet performance metrics whereas the X-Runner was. This comparison is by distant relation. The FR-S is all about communication and connectedness between car and driver. X-Runner wasn't. But in terms of performance numbers, I wouldn't be surprised if they are similar.
