SVC is a way to balance the various inputs. The mid setting works well for my iPhone. You shouldn't need to stray much from the mid setting. Too high of a setting can cause over modulation and too low of a setting can be too weak to derive meaningful volume.

ASL is really a user preference; some like it some don't. I find it useful and keep it in the high setting.

I have my ASL set to Mid. The SVC is set to +20. I did this while in the SAT/XM mode. As I slow down or speed up I never hear a difference.

Are you saying that the settings should be adjusted separately for each mode, AM, FM, SAT, CD?

You can not adjust the AM & FM SVC (I'm not sure about the CD because I've never put a CD in my HU). The SAT & BT have individual setting.

So what you're saying is that the ASL will have NO effect in the AM and FM mode. Its only effective in the SAT/XM mode and the BT mode?

What is BT anyway?

If you want smoother audio sound when you turn the radio up 100%, do the following steps:

1: Go to SVC settings (source volume control) and change it to -10dB to -15dB

2: Turn down the volume on your input device (i.e. bluetooth phone)

This eliminates speaker box door rattle and gives a nice crisp sound and perfect bass levels.

Your music already has the levels compressed and mixed, why screw with EQ settings and mess up the sound that a dedicated professional had already pre mixed?

@ScottKR why do you amp up your levels to +20dB? I notice significant distortion with the bass and trebles overshooting if I have my source volume too high.

BT bluetooth. Duh. :-)

I hardly play music from my phone at all. I'm usually listening to FM and SAT(XM) or even a CD.

What should be the settings for ASL/SVC for FM and SAT?

Turn down the dB's on Sat to -20dB IMO, the satellite radio seems to have a much higher input than my BT connected phone and therefore is usually too loud even at less than 30% volume, so cutting the source volume really helps mellow it out.

>> The dealer told me that the more you want the sound to adjust on its own as you slow down or speed up the higher the number is supposed to be.

>> I'm getting more and more confused now on how the unit is supposed to work.

Ok, will adjust the SVC to -20 in the SAT/XM mode.

This unit made by Fujitsu Ten is NOT user friendly at all IMHO. I've seen other units in other type cars that were much more user friendly, had large icons, the sound leveling worked great without all this screwing around.

@ScottKR oh snap, you might be right. SVC must stand for speed volume control, not source volume control! Ha so no wonder I always end up turning my phone's volume up when I'm reaching the highway. So perhaps disregard what I've said previously, I feel like I got my head stuck up my ass.

Either way, the head unit has too much gain on input sources like BT or Aux, and I suggest cutting volume on the device (BT phone or music player) by 50% to get usable performance without distorting volume.

Won't be using the AUX, don't have an iPod to plug into it.
The music I have on my phone I also have on a CD which I have slid into the player.

My main issue is the ASL and SVC and how they work in conjunction with AM, FM, SAT. CD. I called Subaru corporate in Cherry Hill, NJ and they weren't much help. All they quoted was info from the manual which I could do myself and the manual isn't much help either.

I emailed Fujitsu Ten the maker of the unit and they just referred me back to Subaru or my local dealer.
