A Mercedes cargo truck with FedEx logos on it raced me from a stop light- I was going to pass him but didn't realize he was trying to race until we were both side by side going 30mph over the speed limit. I throttled up and ran past him to get on the highway.

Nya nya nya, my girlfriends cobalt blah blah, so obyou should make a Cobalt SS vs BRZ thread unless you want to stay on topic, you just keep going on about it. Okay, or let's agree to disagree and just call it that, so that we can stop this obnoxious bickering.

I've met a cobalt SS owner, we talked and agreed that the chevy is fast, and as she put it, "gets [her] where [she] needs to go very quickly". But we also acknowledged the cars are not in the same class, just as you can't really compare a WRX to a BRZ, there's not much to compare besides speed when comparing these different classes of cars.
yeah this got out of hand. keep in mind an argument or debate or whatever this was has two sides but ill stop.

I'm sure this has been beaten to death, by my 2 cents:

NO offense to anyone who owns one (or has owned one), BUT...

The guys in the new Camaros are the worst. I'll seriously be in stop and go traffic on the freeway and will just happen to be in a faster moving lane. I pass by, just going with the flow. Then they have to make it a point to move over, weave in and out of traffic, and make sure they stay ahead of me, flooring it the whole time.

Really??!!

The Challenger owners are the most chill. Usually the older dudes reliving glory days, just cruising. Hat tip to those guys.

I completely understand! Went on a roadtrip to CA and I got flipped off by a Camaro driver once I entered the Mojave Highway!

And yes, old dudes driving challengers are teh awesome. Chatted it up with some of the Good Guys, the old challengers are some of the best cars ever!

I just got my car yesterday, so I'm still learning to drive a manual. I have the TRD CAI and exhaust so it sounds really nice and throaty. I was at a red light, and I revved to maybe about 2k rpms because right now that's the only way I can get going without stalling (I'm getting better though!) and the Dodge Ram next to me heard my car and started revving his truck and sped off as soon as the light turned green. He looked like an idiot for thinking I was going to race him.

The evidence showed that the SC and Mark IV are basically the same car, since they do share things like engines chassis transmission suspension etc. Lots of cars were rebadged as another vehicle for example Firebird/Camaro, Cuda/Challenger Roadrunner/GTX Cadillac XLR/Corvette 3000GT/Dodge Stealth Eclipse/Talon just to name a few.

I don't think many would have disputed that the Cobalt SS is faster, maybe even all-around at the track. But that's not what the original point was.
No matter how fast the turbo Cobalt is, nothing changes the fact that it is still a Chevy Cobalt...

I know that's the only way you know right now, but think of it like a seesaw or a cup with a hole in it. You add throttle to get to 2k and then pull the clutch out as you add, its no big deal, but for someone that is still learning manual that's pretty good. At least the seesaw idea is how I always think of it.

And that only a handful of people bought that pos. They rebadged it as the Pontiac G5 and it warmed the dealership lots for a long time. At least Ford put some effort into making a decent sport compact, the old SVT Focus had 170hp and a six speed manual. Chevy can't be bothered to get with the 21st century. Six speed > five speed.

By the way, I totally agree. I wouldn't have been caught dead in a Cobalt. Just trying to point out that the argument has shifted from what it originally was.
