As I recall (I wasn't young then, certainly not now!), Mazda went out of their way to stress that the RX-8 was *not* the "new RX-7", and that a new RX-7 was still a possibility depending on the success of the RX-8. Obviously the 8 didn't do well enough to justify it...

- If yes, did you do anything about the power? If so, your hate might be justified If not, you only have yourself to blame. - If you didn't own one, WHY IN THE FLAMING F**K DO YOU CARE WHAT PERFORMANCE NUMBERS A CAR YOU DECLINED WAS PUTTING DOWN? Seriously. Do you spend so much time crying about every commuter car that is slower than <insert car here>? Or did you miss the part where it never pretended to be anything more than what it was? Do you even enjoy the car you have now? If so, why would you put so much energy into denouncing a car that you didn't pick? Or maybe you hate the car you drive too, but that is also you fault. Grow up and put some pants on before you realize that the car of the forum you are on has less power, less torque, and worse power to weight. And that ceasing production hardly means that it 'died'. Maybe you like old classic cars with big block v8s? They aren't in production. Did they die? Did the hate kill them off? Maybe one day you can dig the keys to your current car out from under the couch cushions and really start driving instead of armchair racing, and maybe learn to enjoy a car for what it is instead of hating them all for what they aren't.

Yenadar has a point. The FR-S isn't going to be any quicker than the RX-8 so to diss the RX-8 because of its power would mean that you would hate the FR-S too. I never liked the RX-8's looks because of the rear doors that make it look too long in the middle section of its body but I have never driven one.

I never wanted a rotary engine in my car. Never will.
RX 8 was the successor for RX7 just as Z4 is for Z3 and Z370 is for z350 is for z300 is for z280 is for z240. |

Why does the rotary sound like a turbocharged weedwacker at WOT?

Cause it is.
Edit: Polamalu: Is it? Me: Yes. Polamalu: Is it? Me: no, it isn't a turbo...

I'm always amazed how people can have such a deep passion against the car that has no basis on any personal experience driving it. Miata, how do you handle shots against Miatas that have very little basis in fact and are largely from people who are gulible outsiders fed misinformation? You won't get that from me, even though my 99 Miata has been a reliability nightmare, burns more oil than my 8 currently, and is about to go through a 2nd engine replacement. Maybe I will swap in something more reliable, smoother, cleaner, more powerful, smaller and funner instead. Something like a rotary.

I don't care what others say about my car. I have had Z3, MINI Cooper and now Miata. I must have a thing for the "hairdresser's car".
