Read the entirety of the thread which now has me very interested in the OEM Audio upgrade.

For those that have it, besides the rave reviews has there been any issues with the back seat, trunk, etc.? Also, is the supposed license plate rattling happening at a decent volume 20-35 or much much higher?

Thanks for the feedback, thinking the OEM audion, TRD exhaust and beatsonic antenna will be my first upgrades after a year of ownership (if you don't count opti-coat)

I have it in my BRZ now, and no I have not noticed any license plate rattling. It is not that huge of a subwoofer upgrade. It is more of a subtle upgrade filling out what the stock system lacks.

They do not pretend it will be a teeth rattling sub setup, and I prefer a blended system which it is (the lower frequencies blend in well such that it is difficult to notice where it comes from but you can tell if your really try). The important part is the tweeter upgrade that removes the fatigue from the stock setup. My buddy noticed this as well.

What back seat issues were you meaning? It does not block the back seat pass-through at all. The two bolt mounting makes removal a snap for when I go to track day.

I think sound deadening is the most beneficial upgrade to any sound system - the trade off is additional weight.

Does anyone know what the RMS rating is for the stock amplifier? I am running jbl p662s in the front doors and curious if it is being under powered or not. They are 2 ohms at 55 watt rms.

Does the trunk cover/carpet remove easily with the subwoofer in place? Need to get the junk out of the trunk on track days and would prefer not to have to remove the subwoofer since the weight wouldn't be a big issue.

@BRZgirl, may I ask who did/is doing the installation for yours? I notice you're up in NorCal as well and am curious.

Thanks in advance!

I bought and installed the system myself. Definitely an improvement in sound quality and loudness even though as people have pointed out it's not the loudest system out there. Very happy with end result.

Took me about 4h to install but should probably not take more than 2-3 if you don't hit any snags (or if you are more of a handy man than I am...)

A few things that slowed down the install for me:
1. The sub-woofer came with a piece of protective foam taped to it. The tape left a lot of residue on the plastic which took me a long time to get off.
2. I followed the installation video and ended up putting back the passenger side quarter panel too early. You need it off to get proper access to flatten the bracket for the sub-woofer
3. I though I could skip greasing the wire to pass it through the grommet but that made it really hard. Finally got some silicone grease and that made it real easy.
4. The amplifier looks a little different from the one in the installation video and the white and gray connectors have changed position. Before I realized that I spent good time trying to figure out why they wouldn't plug in (kind of stupid of me not to try reversing them right away but still...)

I think the video shows pretty well what tools you need but just in case:
1. Panel removal tools (I got the astro pneumatic people posted about here and they worked great)
2. Pliers (for flattening the bracket)
3. Crimper (for the fuse box)
4. Greese (to pass cable through grummet)
5. Silicone sealant (for the grummet)
6. Heat gun or little torch (to shrink cover where cable meets fuse box)
7. Box cotter to make hole in carpet for the cable by the sub-woofer
10. 10mm socket wrench with extension arm since the head unit bolts are pretty recessed
11. 12mm wrench for the battery top nut
12. A few extra cable ties to tighten everything down

I managed to mangle back the battery plus cover with the extra cable under it but it is a tight fit. Perhaps worth making a small notch in the cover.

Also, be careful when you plug the head unit back in. To reach the plugs I tilted it to the side and the sharp brackets scratched the passenger side panel a bit.

HI All,

I am interested in OEM Audio Plus for BRZ.

I have some questions as below.

1. What's different between 400+ and 400 CF?

Which one you recommend?

http://shop.oemaudioplus.com/FR-S-BRZ_c5.htm

2. I am a Subaru BRZ owner (not FRS)

Where I can find authorized dealer for install in order to keep the

3 year/36,000 mile warranty? ps. My Zip is 18104.

Roughly, how much for the install from the authorized dealer?

3. Where I should buy to get the lowest price for BRZ system, either

400+ or 400 CF?

Thanks.

The difference is the base 400+ installs a DSP that remaps the Subaru radio and replaces the stock tweeters while adding the rear subwoofer. It replaces the stock amplifier and runs the tweeter/mid and door woofers off an amp mounted on the rear subwoofer box.

The CF reference system forgoes the mid woofer in the dash and retunes the system to use the mid signals in the door woofer which is replaced by the price difference. I cannot say what the sound difference is until I get my upgraded DSP/amp and umbilical cord.

There are no dealers for the Subaru version of the system where the FRS version has a dealer online as well as being distributed by the Scion dealers.

I had to buy my system from OEM+ directly.

1. Since the difference is only 300 dollars between the two I would personally go with the CF. It adds a lot more oomph to your music.

2. You can buy through a Scion dealer or direct from their website or through 3rd party retailers like toyotasparks or toyotapartsoutlet (usually a little cheaper but might be awhile till they have the reference series)

3. You should be able to buy the BRZ version anywhere you can buy the FRS verison.
