If you are a male over 40 this is a non-issue, my 16 year old step daughter says she can hear it. To me it just sounds like a diesel at idle. Above 5k rpm I have a loud rattle behind the dash. Not a big deal either. Why waste customer service and Toyota engineering resources on a this little issue when guys like csgmike and others have blown engines?

No. Trade in your car if you can't handle it. Then again, if you are just pissing yourself off, maybe its not the car

Because many of us don't want to sound like we are driving a beater diesel while sitting at a stop light (while sitting in our NEW cars mind you).

Coming from idiot that puts baseball cards in his rims to make engine sound louder. How about when ToyBaru releases new HPFP, you keep your old " normal" one.

If you just tried to insult me, not only did you not make any sense, you failed miserably. Better luck next time. You also may want to work on your typing skills/grammar--you're abusing the space bar over there, buddy.

And, frankly, I plan on keeping the old one until I hear about a real replacement (where the chirps actually don't come back--some owners are on their fourth or fifth pump now) or if the pump actually fails (scary, unlikely, but real possibility).

There is also evidence that the crickets are going away as the miles add up. Can't make any direct references, but some of the owners with more than 10k miles are reporting that the noise is fading.

Oh, and for the record, I did the card thing with my bicycle when I was 8-9, and it sounded AWESOME.

11k miles, original pump. I could have definitely gone in to get it replaced anytime before about 2 months ago but it is silent now. I have zero plans to get the pump replaced even if a "fixed" version comes out. Besides even if a revised pump did come out I wouldn't qualify because my car doesn't chirp!

All 91 octane E10 at the cheapest station of the day that is convenient.

Yes. Put ethanol-free gas in your car. That is ONE solution.

Problem is that a lot (most?) people don't have access to that as a solution. If you can get ethanol-free gas, then start filling up at those stations and stop being pissed off.

That's not proven, some have claimed to have used ethanol free without "success".

I know I'm missing some posts but:

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...postcount=2242
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=910

Which is contrary to those claiming a magic fix with even just a couple gallons and only a few miles of driving.

Extremely late edit to add two more:

I give on this subject. With the exception of a couple outliers, most people whom have tried it have had great "luck" with ethanol-free gas. (I put luck in quotes since it is apparently just a coincidence that most of the people that put ethanol-free gas in their car have the crickets go away)

Theory is, ethanol has removed the coating causing the pump to squeak while pressurizing the fuel.. If it is indeed correct, going to ethanol fuel AFTER the crickets are there, does not put the coating back on there fore doesn't really help.. And for what it's worth, people are still waiting for Europe, austrialla, and Japan to report this issue.. Places that do not use ethanol on a wide basis, if at all

Also there was some stations that claim no ethanol in their storage tanks, yet tested for more the. The 10%, and some that had around 5%.. So a good way to see if your deal of choice actually has ethanol in it is sending it off
