Nameless
I am new to the forum and just purchased my new FRS and am looking to add a exhaust system, intake and coilovers. As far as the exhaust I am set on either the Perrin catback or Nameless axleback (with the downpipe). I really like louder exhausts so I was considering the Nameless without the Helmholtz resonator and without a muffler. I am not sure how loud this would be or if it is overkill? If it makes any difference I also plan on getting the Nameless header when it gets released. Also I noticed people are buying aftermarket front pipes. Does the Nameless axleback package not replace this? Thanks

Welcome to the forum! If you search the forum you'll find so many posts about these subjects you can read for days and gather all your information!
The Nameless axleback is just the mufflers itself, the nameless full package replaces the Axleback portion, down/front pipe portion and overpipe portion. Midpipe is not included as for now Nameless does not offer a midpipe(yet). If you like loud go fully catless! To each of their own, something loud for me may not be loud for you, I'm running my vehicle fully catless, some may despise it but i prefer it, if its to loud for you, you can always sell the pipes and mix and match again. I would keep the Helmholtz resonator, really cuts down on drone.

The helmholtz resonator just reduces the sound at highway speeds in the cabin. It doesn't act like a muffling resonator like the midpipe has. To answer your question about the front pipe, Nameless has fused the Overpipe and Front Pipe together into one piece, otherwise known as a Downpipe. Its cheaper than most solutions out there and has the least number of bends along with very high quality welds. Many people run this downpipe with other exhausts because of the price/performance value you get from it. Great choice on Nameless btw. It takes a bit for it to be custom made, but it is highly worth the wait. These guys know what high quality and performance is all about. |

No mufflers on the Nameless website is the same sound as to their Track pipe version just a different look. 4" is loud but not really on the loud hand side, 5" is relatively quiet. There is no such thing as resonated or non resonated with Nameless because you keep the stock midpipe which is resonated so your exhaust system will have a resonator in it. You can either run catless on the front pipe or catted. I advise if you like loud, get the 4" axleback version, with a catless front/down pipe with the Helmholtz Resonator to reduce drone. Youll have a loud exhaust with a nice tone but not over the top loud, my setup is Invidia N1 catback, catless Invidia front pipe, motiv over pipe and a revworks UEL header. This setup may be to loud for many.

If im not mistaken I think the Nameless EL Header will be offered as catted or catless so theres always the option of running a catless exhaust system and a catted EL Header(in my eyes makes no sense). As far as running the Nameless Equal length header i'd suggest making sure the header is catless, since the header will be catless i DEF advice running a Helmholtz resonator and a catted downpipe. Just as you said the raspiness will probably be unbearable. FR-S Matt is right, if your purchasing the Header run a catted downpipe w/ helmholtz resonator and depending on your volume run a 4" or 5".
What i enjoy about the Revworks UEL Header is the tone of volume increases but not significantly and you achieve the boxer rumble and I can have the option to run a catless downpipe reason being the header itself in volume does not increase a vast amount! Which is why i really enjoy the setup i have although it is loud! Quote:

So what does the Nameless package contain that just the axleback does not? Is it the downpipe? If I was just to go with the axleback, what other aftermarket exhaust component could I upgrade? I guess my question is what is the difference between the package and just the axleback? In addition people are suggesting keeping the hemholtz resonator and going with a catless overpipe or front pipe as well as keeping the muffler. How do you pass emissions without a cat??

It sounds like you're a bit confused on the car's full exhaust setup. Headers > Over Pipe > Front Pipe > Mid-pipe > Axleback The Nameless package contains the Downpipe (Over Pipe+Front Pipe) and the Axleback portion. Nameless did not include the midpipe because it did not add any power, the stock resonator is really good, and they didn't feel the need to charge you extra for that piece. The Axleback is just the rear section by itself that mates up to the stock midpipe. |

Legally speaking you don't pass emissions if you don't have a cat. Illegally speaking you get a tune so the ECU doesn't look at it. You're also destroying the environment more than you need to if you run catless. No reason to ruin things for our future grandkids, grandkids.
