I believe the OP and thread title reads "real world mpg," not in-dash. Besides, the in-dash reading are always garbage.

My dashboard average versus measured is almost 3MPG in difference. The dash is only an estimation and has no way of accurately measuring fuel consumption, it only estimates based on fuel level in the tank and throttle position.

-alex

Edit: should be estimation based on throttle position and speed, not fuel level.

Auto trans, maybe? That's the one thing not being mentioned here consistently is the transmission type.

I'm at about 27 MPG, 1350 miles, manual gearbox, 75% highway, no ethanol.

Rural area, highway miles and an insignificant amount of city driving is how get 30+

Lrr tires were ditched on the first tank

I'm in low 30's over first 900 miles in a manual. 93 octane E10 V-Power.

Bone stock.

6MT here. I don't dig in to the throttle on the street. I would really have to try to get a tank under 30mpg. Almost did on my last tank with 2 autoxes (6 runs each and a whole lot of idling).

I'm averaging about 27mpg, 6MT and 2k miles on the odo. That's calculated by dividing the miles on the trip odo by the number of gallons required to fill the tank. According to the MPG meter on the car, I'm averaging 29.3 overall.

My BRZ (6MT) just hit 1 year last Friday (used my '02 wrx most of the winter) and after 16,000 miles, the Odometer says 32.1 average mpg, but I do the math ever fill-up and it's usually 30-31 and I'm very happy with that! My commute is about 70% highway, but NJ highways that is sometimes like stop and go city driving.

Are you shifting every time it flashes to shift? Hell if I drive it like that it wants me in 6 gear at 30mph. But I think that is what you have to do for the best.

Yeah. I'm in 6th gear at 30mph, unless I really need to accelerate or I'm going up a hill or something.

- Don't use big throttle inputs. I only push on the accelerator a little unless I'm really in a hurry.
- Keep your rpms low (by shifting to higher gears)
- Start slowing down when you see a red light ahead, or a light that's going to be red. I use the brake as little as possible.
- Avoid busy roads.
- And, on the highway, drive slower. Peak efficiency seems to be at about 50mph. Above 60 it drops quick. Still over 30mpg though.
- Most of all you really have to be impatient. If you are in a hurry you aren't going to get good gas mileage. Leave on time.
