Windows 8 - more stable, smaller memory footprint, MUCH faster. Get ready to learn a few new U.I. conventions, no biggie unless you can't learn new stuff.

I personally do NOT like win8 because of the new start screen. My OCD-ness gets crazy that I somehow can't find my "accessories" folder or things aren't in a "list" order. lol (I've come to realize that btw)

I find it suuupeerr annoying and REL if you think about it... there are games that still use Vista and in some rare cases XP as a compatible OS for games.
Win 8 is... different... but with the added 3rd party start menu it kinda feels like windows 7... the 3rd party app made it boot into desktop mode, so I never saw the Metro UI...

On the other hand... on the surface, Windows 8 is awesome...

I think you told me about the 3rd party app. I feel kinda uneasy about it. :/ That's my current problem right now. lol

Same here. I've been using W8 on a 3 screen gaming setup at home for over a year now. Yes, it took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, but once I realized that 1) the Windows button is the new Start Menu and 2) you are only ever one click away from the standard desktop it was no big deal.

In addition, I still use W7 at work, and I have Surface Tablet I use as my "notebook" computer for work.

It does, but not completely. There are lots of 3rd party apps that will though. I personally use DisplayFusion Pro because it does a great job of managing multiple monitor setups and letting them work the way you want them to.

Yep, that's correct. Announced last week I think. So, for me, that makes it a no brainer if you are building a gaming system.

8. I use it at home and I use it at work, and once you get past the changes it's not a big deal at all.

I also manage some Server 2012 boxes which have an interface like 8. Some people really hate it, but Metro isn't going away. So unless you just plan on skipping till 9, when you'll probably get the same experience as 8 anyway, might as well go with the most current version IMO.

I have 3 partitions, one for XP, 7, and 8. I did this a long time ago before 8 was officially released, and I definitely use 7 most of the time. I still use XP for some old software that isn't compatible with the modern-ness. I'm sure if you put in a little effort, you can make 8 look and behave exactly how you want it. That's how all versions of Windows have been, really. Just depends on how much extra software, skins, plugins, and whatever else you want to install.

8 is definitely the new standard. That being said, I bought a new laptop last week and made sure it came with 7.

Windows 8 will struggle for acceptance by the world market, as mentioned in this recent article http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/...-os-x-installs

Kind of reminds me about those funny VW Golf TV adds showing salesmen of other car brands comparing an aspect of their car to being just like a Golf. In this case Microsoft is bending over backwards to make 8 more like 7 so why not simply stick with 7 to begin with!

I have win8 and win7 on two different machines, and honestly 8 is still a bit of a mess even omitting the new GUI. 7 is still a powerful OS, particularly when it comes to RAM scaling. If you're doing work and doing more productivity applications then win7 is much better. If your doing blogging, social media, RSS feeds, then win8 is pretty amazing at organizing all those info, especially when it comes to image-to-cloud organizations.

I use my win7 machine more because of the flexibility to get into system files when i want to. and i like to customize my workflow on the desktop every once in awhile. Here is my current desktop.

and some old ones..

I use Pokki for Windows 8. It's a decent replacement for the start button.

For now I prefer Windows 7, I'll skip Windows 8 for no reason other than I'm really cheap and I like OEM stuff. lol OT: I'm really digging the Strike Freedom with M.E.T.E.O.R wallpaper.

I would go with win 7.. been doing the IT thing since the early 70's
when windows was just a virus with mouse support.
Win 7 architecture still sucks using a registry and all.. but its stable and supports so many devices and peripherals..
the hardcore gaming world tested 7 vs 8 for gaming performance and they were almost equal in every area.. so unless u have to have the new GUI and built in apps.. i would go 7
