3M Paint Protection Spay
Just wanted to know if anyone used this product yet. I posted this in the other forum. Seem to have the clear bra and plastic dip to it. You can spray on and peel it off.

There was a thread on here somewhere about thus. Maybe in detailing or the main FRS forum. Not sure if anyone there had used it though

I have the $15 ArmorAll version, been waiting for the clear. When the schedule calms down, I will try it. Small section first of course.

I've used a couple cans on my car. It has potential, it goes on very thick, so the protection is probably comparable to a traditional clear bra. It's also great as a glossy clearcoat over plasti-dip.
Applying it right is a real pain. Unless you follow the directions carefully it will end up running and requiring a redo. And following the directions requires a good deal of faith, because it looks like crap when it first comes out of the can, and then takes about 15 minutes to smooth out and set. |

Ive given it a go twice...its really tough to get it right on the whole hood...the first time I went to fast and it was thin on one side the second time i went to slow and it was to thick and had some issues with it bubbling up...If you can get the timing down (and use a plasti dip nozzle for the hood) you can get great results...I mean its really nice. For the price its REALLY nice. BUT getting it to the right thickness is NOT easy as it seems. I went with three passes at 2 sec per foot and that was to slow but the first time I did it I went about 1 sec per foot and it was a little to fast....which caused orange peel on half the hood. Came off really easy the second time being it was thick and all but if its to thin its really not easy to remove. Had to get duct tape to a 6x3" area that wouldnt come off easily (first go with the thin area). Be sure the area is cold, clean and dust free....and you have a whole day of not driving it. And a sunny area (once the stuff is DRY) to park it in after spraying it.

Just did mine. You have to spray it at a good pace. I over spray so peeling it off and this time, I'm doing my entire hood and fenders. It does a good job for protection for the price.

I've only try the 3m. Just put it on this week. It's kind of tricky on the spraying part and plus you have give it time to dry in the sun before letting water get on it or putting tape on it, while trying to spray other parts of the car. Also make sure not to spray between the line of the fender and bumper as it can be hard to take it off. Mine turn out ok. I need to re-do my hood and bumper but it'll have to wait until next week as I don't have time to re-do it before the drive this week. Over all it's not a bad product to used for protection if you are making trip to Southern Cal. It'll protect small rock and little debris but anything bigger then forget it. LOL. |
