![]() If some are of the same frame of mind as myself, the FRS/BRZ is a daily driver with better mileage and more cargo capacity than a Cayman (and hella cheaper insurance). This is also not our actual or only sports car either. This will be our beater car for those that don't want FWD, wagon or hot hatch. Not to mention the Cayman S I always end up spec'ing seems to usually be around $80-$90K. I can also spend $90K better on something other than a Cayman. Base price on a Porsche is kind of bullshit. I think some auto mag tested a Boxster versus the Jag F-type and it was base $61K but tested price was $101K. If it wasn't for the 10 series, I'd be waiting it out as I usually only buy end year models, especially from Toyota. Honestly, I thought that $3K more for GT86 headlamps, dual-zone climate, push button start, special paint and the locator badges was a pretty decent deal so had to jump on it. I've always like bluish silver paint, flat grey concrete paint, and gold/green shift from Lexus Bamboo pearl. This car seems to have all three of those themes in one paint. Kind of cool. |

I would give the factory installed Helical a trip around the block before i dumped it.
I actually prefer the helical and went out of my way to put one in my S13.5 racecar |

Wow, I normally don't look at many build threads, or when I do I never flip through the whole thread. This is some impressive stuff here, I went through this thread start to finish. I must say it may have inspired me. I was going to get a kit and all kinds of stuff, but I think I like the clean approach of this build better. I think I will still do most of what i want, but no kit now.
I like the look of those under panels too. Do we know how well they will fit the FR-S? I didn't see that posted anywhere around them. Edit: And does anyone know what they're made of?

"Torsens are great and beefy, but can be killed with even a little wheel hop. Clutch types aren't as sensitive. Cluth types will eventually need a rebuild and since the clutches wear over time, the amount of lock up deteriorates as it gets used. Torsens also require having both wheels on the ground as they need a bit of preload on them...so like pulling into a steep drive way, you can kinda get "stuck" if the car pick up one of the rear wheels(I have done this several times) and on extremely low friction surfaces, like ice, the Torsen can act like an open diff and only spin one wheel but this can be alieveated but applying shock load (i.e. dumping the clutch). The "drifters" prefer the 2 way because it keeps the rear wheels locked up under deceleration which makes the car more predictable and helps scub speed when off the throttle. It isn't essential, but helpful on a car that for the most part does not come with a LSD." So unless you go hardcore drifting, tracking or race in mountain roads with horrible surfaces, it won't be really necessary to have a 2 way LSD. A Torsen LSD is capable enough to handle most situations. |

]off topic a bit.. this is my collection of M3.. 1988 and 2003 The reason for FRS is to use as DD, and try to save some milage to the M3s. But I found some similar bits in FRS and the E30 M3. Love all the TRD designs on the FRS, and big follower of this thread. |

@zephyr69 @SkullWorks I am keeping the stock diff for now thank you for your input. I can always change it later. TRD is about $1400 in case anyone is curious.

In most cases for tuning, its better to slowly change stuff rather than change things all at once. So that you have better feel for the change each individual part brings to the table. You'll end up appreciating the upgrades more too in the long run. |
